Welcome to the Birthday notifier v1.0
=====================================
About the program
=================
The birthday program is a small program that can be used to display today's
and tomorrow anniversaries of you friends and relatives. It is intended to
be used in the startup folder so you will be informed about the oncoming
anniversaries each time you start your system. It helps you to remeber to
give those persons a call or mail them a postcard or something like that.
Zipfile contents
================
This package should contain the following files:
main files:
Birthday.Exe - the OS/2 PM based birthday reminder program
Birthday.Dat - the default calendar data base file (plain ASCII)
Birthday.Hlp - the on-line help file of the program
additional files:
Birthday.Inf - the help file in INF format (use view.exe to view)
Readme.1st - this file
Installation
============
1. copy the three main files to a directory on your hard disk, e.g. a
directory where you keep your executables.
2. if you like, you can create a program object for the program, e.g. in you
startup folder.
3. use any ASCII editor to place your own birthday information into the
'birthday.dat' file or to create you own calendar file; it's easy, for each
birthday, simply write the DAY OF THE MONTH, the MONTH number and the TEXT
that must appear on screen (e.g. the name of the person) on a single line;
see the supplied calendar file 'birthday.dat' for an example.
4. see the importand note about starting the program below.
Importand note about starting the program!!!!
=============================================
The program makes use of a calendar file to read the birthday information
from. By default this is the file 'birthday.dat'. If you want the program to
use that file, the file must be in the current working directory when
starting the program. The program will not look around to find the data file.
As an alternative, to overcome this shortcomming, you can also specify the path
and filename of the calendar file as a parameter to the program. Note that the
birthday program will not complain nor give any feedback if a calendar file
cannot be found or read.
