Mastering WordPerfect 5.0
In less than 2 hours, you will have learned to create,
edit, and print a sophisticated document with WordPerfect 5.0.
You will be able copy and move text, underline and boldface for
added emphasis and use WordPerfect's powerful Spell Checker and
Thesaurus. R & D Training will take you from starting
WordPerfect 5.0, to advanced document formatting. You will be
well on your way to mastering the skills needed to use
WordPerfect 5.0 with confidence in your professional career.
Getting Started with Your R&D Training Program
(Floppy Diskette)
Getting Prepared
Follow the instructions that came with your computer to
start up your system.
Place your R&D training program diskette in drive A:
Display the A:> prompt on your screen.
If you are using drive B:
Place your R&D training program diskette in drive B:
Display the B:> prompt on your screen.
Begin
Type R&D Don't worry about uppercase or lower case letters.
Press the ENTER key.
In a few moments, a question will appear on your screen
asking you whether or not you have a color monitor. After you
answer the question with a Y or an N you will begin your
training.
Installing your R&D Training on Your Hard Disk
Getting Prepared
Follow the instructions that came with your computer
to start up your system.
Place your R&D training program diskette in drive A:
Display the A:> prompt on your screen.
If you are using drive B:
Place your R&D training program diskette in drive B:
Display the B:> prompt on your screen.
Begin
Type INSTALL followed by the letter designation
for your hard disk.
Type a : (colon)
Press the ENTER key.
Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
Place your R&D training diskettes in a safe
place once the training program is successfully installed.
Type R&DWP1 at the C:> prompt to start training for Volume 1.
Type R&DWP2 at the C:> prompt to start training for Volume 2.
Type R&DWP3 at the C:> prompt to start training for Volume 3.

FUNCTION KEYSTROKE
ADVANCE -- Inserts printer codes to print SHIFT-F8,4,1
text at a specified location on the page.
APPEARANCE ATTRIBUTES -- To select print CTRL-F8,2
attributes to change the way text is printed
out. (Bold, Underline, etc.)
AUTOMATIC REFERENCE -- To create references ALT-F5,1
to other points in a document that change
automatically as pagination changes or figure
numbers change.
AUTOMATICALLY FORMAT & REWRITE -- To have SHIFT-F1,3,1
WordPerfect automatically reformat and rewrite
text as you edit or scroll through a document.
BACKSPACE -- To delete the character to the <--(Backspace)
left of the cursor.
BACKUP -- To set file backup options, timed SHIFT-F1,1
backups or original backups.
BASE FONT -- To change the basic typeface in CTRL-F8,4
which the document is printed, such as,
Courier, Times Roman.
BEEP OPTIONS -- To have the computer "beep" SHIFT-F1,5,1
when specific messages are displayed on the screen.
BINDING -- Used to shift the text to the right SHIFT-F7,B
or left to allow space for hole punching or book
binding.
BLOCK -- Used to define portions of text for use ALT-F4
with other features.
BLOCK PROTECT (Block on) -- Protects a block of SHIFT-F8
text from being split by a soft page break.

BOLD -- To have specific text be printed out F6 or CTRL-F8,
darker than the rest of the text. 2,1
^C (Text form Keyboard) -- Creates a pause in SHIFT-F9,C
a primary or secondary file to allow input
from the keyboard.
CANCEL -- To have WordPerfect back out of any F1
menu or status line message.
CANCEL PRINT JOBS -- To cancel any print jobs SHIFT-F7,4,1
that are still waiting to be printed.
CARTRIDGES & FONTS -- To set the cartridges SHIFT-F7,S,3,5
and fonts used with a particular type of printer.
CASE CONVERSION (Block on) -- To change blocks SHIFT-F3
of text to upper or lower case letters.
CENTER -- To center a line as it is entered. SHIFT-F6
CENTER PAGE (Top to bottom) -- Centers a page SHIFT-F8,2,1
vertically on a page between the top and
bottom margins.
COLORS/FONTS/ATTRIBUTES -- To set the color, SHIFT-F1,8,2
font or attributes of text that appears on
the screen.
COLUMNS (Text & Parallel) -- To create column ALT-F7
setups for newsletters, inventory lists, etc.
COMPOSE -- Used to create special characters, CTRL-2
such as, Greek characters, or special numeric
symbols.
CONCORDANCE -- Used to create a file that is ALT-F5,5,3
an index containing frequently repeated words
or phrases in a document.

CONDITIONAL END OF PAGE -- Used to protect a SHIFT-F8,4,2
specific number of lines of text from being
split by a page break.
CONTROL PRINTER -- Used to manage print jobs SHIFT-F7,4

COPY FILE -- Copy the current file to another SHIFT-F5, ENTER,
file or directory. 8
CREATE DIRECTORY --Used to create new F5,=
directories for file storage.
^D (Date) -- Inserts the current date when a SHIFT-F9,D
document is merged.
DATE CODE -- Causes the current system date SHIFT-F5,2
to automatically appear in the document
whenever a file is retrieved.
DATE FORMAT -- Used to change the way the SHIFT-F5,3
date is displayed, ie. month, day, year.
DATE TEXT -- Inserts the current system SHIFT-F5,1
date as text in a document.
DATE/OUTLINE -- Call up menu to insert SHIFT-F5
date or start outlining.
DECIMAL/ALIGN CHARACTER -- Used to affect SHIFT-F8,4,3
the way math results are displayed.
DEFINE (Mark text) -- Used to define a table ALT-F5,5
of contents, list, index and/or table of
authorities.
DELETE (Character Left) -- Deletes the <--(Backspace)
character to the left of the cursor position.
DELETE (Character Right) -- Deletes the DEL
character under the cursor.

pitch, or amount of space (in width) that one
character occupies on the screen.
DISPLAY SETUP -- Used to set the options for SHIFT-F1,3
the on screen display attributes of WordPerfect.
DOCUMENT COMMENTS -- Comments inserted into CTRL-F5,5
a document that serve as reminders, or notes,
to the author, they are not printed out.

the screen to a file on a disk.

DOCUMENT SUMMARY -- To create a document SHIFT-F8,3,4
summary for a file; date, time, comments,
author, subject, etc.
DOS TEXT FILE OPERATIONS -- Used to create, CTRL-F5,1
retrieve and edit ASCII files without any
formatting codes.
DOUBLE UNDERLINE -- Used to create a double CTRL-F8,2,3
underline.
^E (End of Record) -- Used to mark the end SHIFT-F9,E
of a secondary file, or automatically stop a merge.
EDIT TABLE OF AUTHORITIES FULL FORM -- To ALT-F5,5,5
edit citations in their full, or original form.
ENDNOTE -- Used to create endnotes that CTRL-F7,2
are automatically numbered at the end of a document.
ENDNOTE PLACEMENT CODE -- Used to tell CTRL-F7,3
WordPerfect to generate the endnotes form
this point to the beginning of the document or the
previous endnote code.
ENTER (or Return) -- Use to end lines of ENTER
text, paragraphs or insert blank lines.
EXIT -- Used to clear the screen to work F7
on a new document, exit WordPerfect or leave
menus.

EXTRA LARGE PRINT -- Used to change the CTRL-F8,1,7
size of text that is printed out to
approximately 3 times the normal size.
^F(n) (Field) -- Merges the text from SHIFT-F9,F
field n (n equals a number or a name)
into a document.
FAST SAVE -- Saves the current document SHIFT-F1,4
on the screen to the disk without formatting
the document.
FIGURE (Graphics) -- Used to insert graphic ALT-F9,1
figures to a document.
FILENAME ON STATUS LINE -- Used to set whether SHIFT-F1,3,4
or not the current file name is displayed on
the status line.
FINE PRINT -- To have text printed out CTRL-F8,1,3
approximately 1/3 the size of normal text.
FLUSH RIGHT -- Used to align one or more ALT-F6
lines flush against the right margin.
FOOTERS -- Used to have the same information SHIFT-F8,2,4
print out at the bottom of every page, odd
pages, or even pages.
FOOTNOTE -- To place information on items CTRL-F7,1
cited in text at the bottom of the page.
FORCE ODD/EVEN PAGE -- Forces the the page SHIFT-F8,2,2
number on the current page to be an odd, or
even, number.
FORMAT -- Used to change the way text will SHIFT-F8
print out in a document.
FORMS -- Used to define the type of print SHIFT-F7,S,3,4
forms used by individual printers.

^G (Start Marco) -- Used to start a macro at SHIFT-F9,G
the end of a merge.

remove redline and strikeout form a document.
GENERATE TABLES, INDEXES, ETC. -- Used to ALT-F5,6,5
generate tables, indexes, table of contents,
endnotes and references.
GENERIC WORDPROCESSOR FORMAT -- Used to save CTRL-F5,3
files formatted files without WordPerfect
specific codes.
GO (Start Printer) -- Restarts the printer SHIFT-F7,4,4
after it has been stopped for a form or
cartridge change or after the Stop option has
been used.
GO TO DOS -- To return to DOS (Disk Operating CTRL-F1,1
System) and re-enter WordPerfect without
exiting WordPerfect.
GRAPHICS -- Used to Call up the WordPerfect ALT-F9
Graphic options menu for inserting or deleting
graphics.
GRAPHICS QUALITY -- Used to determine the SHIFT-F7,G
print resolution, quality, for printing graphics.
GRAPHICS SCREEN TYPE -- Used to set the type SHIFT-F1,3,5
of graphics screen used for display of
WordPerfect graphics.
HARD PAGE -- Used to insert a page break at a CTRL-ENTER
specific location in a document.

together, such as, dates, names and equations.
HEADERS -- Used to print the same information SHIFT-F8,2,3
on every page, odd pages or even pages.
HELP -- Used to display onscreen information F3
about how to use a WordPerfect feature.
HOME -- Used with the arrow keys for cursor HOME
movement.
HORIZONTAL LINE (Graphics) -- Used to insert ALT-F9,5,1
a horizontal line in a document.
HYPHENATION -- Used to turn hyphenation of SHIFT-F8,1,1
words on and off, and be automatic or manual.
HYPHENATION ZONE -- Used to set the set the SHIFT-F8,1,2
amount of space a word must exceed the right
margin to determine whether the word is
hyphenated or word wrapped.
->INDENT -- Used to indent an entire paragraph F4
from the left margin.

is formatted, by spacing adjustments, to keep the
right margin even.

custom keyboard configurations.
LANGUAGE -- Used to tell WordPerfect which SHIFT-F8,4,4

place line numbers at the left edge of the page.
LINE SPACING -- Used to set the number of SHIFT-F8,1,6
lines between text, such as, single, double
or triple spacing.
LIST DEFINE -- Used to define the style of ALT-F5,5,2
generated lists.
LIST MARK (Block on) -- Used to mark text to ALT-F5,2
be used for generated lists.
LIST FILES -- Allows the user to display the F5,ENTER

automatically number the pages in a document.
PARAGRAPH NUMBER -- Used to number paragraphs, SHIFT-F5,5
or an outline, one number at a time.
PARAGRAPH NUMBERING DEFINITION -- Used to SHIFT-F5,6
define the type of numbering sequence to be
used in paragraph numbering or outlining.
PAGE SIZE/TYPE -- Used to specify which type SHIFT-F8,2,8

PRINTER SETTINGS -- Used to tell WordPerfect SHIFT-F7,S,3
about specific options associated with a printer.
^Q (Stop Merge) -- Code placed to stop the SHIFT-F9,Q
mail-merge function.
^R (End of Field) -- Marks the end of a field SHIFT-F9,R
in a secondary file.
REDLINE -- Used to mark text to be deleted CTRL-F8,2,8
before a final draft is made of a document.
REDLINE METHOD -- Used to define the look of SHIFT-F8,3,3
the redlining done in a document.
REMOVE REDLINE/STRIKEOUT -- Used to remove ALT-F5,6,1
all redlined/strikeout text for final draft
printing.
REPEAT VALUE -- Sets the number of times that ESC

a rectangle that has been cut for moving.

REVEAL CODES -- Used to display all print ALT-F3
codes, as well as text, in a document.
REWRITE -- Used to set the automatic CTRL-F3,0
formatting of a document to on or off.
RUSH PRINT JOB -- Used to change the priority SHIFT-F7,4,2
of jobs in the list of print jobs.
^S (Secondary File) -- Used to change to a SHIFT-F9,S
specific secondary file in a mail-merge.
SAVE -- Used to save a document to disk F10
without losing your place on the screen.
