Installing DOOM files from CD.
------------------------------
First things first. Locate the directory containing the file you wish to
install. This bit's easy. Say, for instance, I wanted a file called :-
FILE.ZIP
from the directory :-
\DOOM\PCZONE\COMPO\ENTRIES
you should locate your DOOM directory on your hard disk, it may be :-
C:\GAMES\DOOM
or something like
D:\DOOM
inside your DOOM directory create a directory for storing these files
by typing :-
MD C:\GAMES\DOOM\FILES
or if D: is your hard drive
and DOOM is at D:\DOOM...
MD D:\DOOM\FILES
this creates the 'FILES' directory inside directory 'DOOM'.
Okay, let's take a breather here. You might want to go for a walk, stretch
your legs and relax a little before we go on. Well, off you go...
Okay so you're back, then if you're sitting comfortably we'll begin again.
Enter your files directory by typing :-
C:
or if D: is your drive for DOOM, then
D:
followed on the next line by
CD\GAMES\DOOM\FILES
or alternatively
CD\DOOM\FILES
if that's where it's at.
Now comes the biggie. Just type :-
PKUNZIP D:\DOOM\PCZONE\COMPO\ENTRIES\FILE.ZIP
where 'D:' represents your CDROM drive
So, if your CD drive is E: for instance, just type :-
PKUNZIP E:\DOOM\PCZONE\COMPO\ENTRIES\FILE.ZIP
Remember to read any associated text files which may be found in the .ZIP
archive for further instructions as to how to make use of these new files
for DOOM.
To COPY any file from the CD, follow the above procedure, replacing the
'PKUNZIP' command with that of 'COPY'.
Pretty painless, huh?
