  14. I.INTRODUCTION
  15.  
  16.      ScanPRO is a database program for 400-channel scanners,
  17. such as the Realistic Pro-2006. Besides the usual sort and search
  18. functions, ScanPRO also includes some special features not
  19. found in other scanner databases. ScanPRO will automatically
  20. display entries containing special keywords in a characteristic
  21. color, i.e.:
  22.  
  23. Entries containing the keyword:         Will be displayed in:

  27. the words "Sheriff" or "County"         BROWN

  29.      ScanPRO also takes advantage of the 50-line VGA display
  30. capability. Pressing F4 will switch any IBM-8514 compatible VGA
  31. monitor into this mode for displaying two banks simultaneously,
  32. with the ability to page through all 10 banks. Future updates
  33. will allow editing in this mode as well.
  34.      Reports to any standard dot-matrix printer will print in
  35. compressed mode, enabling all 400 channel entries to be reported
  36. in only 4 pages.
  37.      Another special feature of ScanPRO is the ability to
  38. identify a police 10-code at any time by hitting the F6 key. You
  39. can customize the standard text file "code.dat" with any text
  40. editor to make changes for any different 10-codes in your area.

  42. II.GETTING AROUND IN SCANPRO
  43.  
  44.      Upon startup of ScanPRO, you will be automatically greeted 
  45. by the colorful startup screen. You will then be sent to
  46. the main display screen displaying bank 1. The Bank number you
  47. are working in will be displayed in the upper right corner of
  48. your screen. The bottom of the screen will display a menu bar
  49. identifying the function key assignments. A dialogue box will
  50. also appear in the middle of the screen reminding you that you
  51. are using an unregistered copy. Ponder this, and press any key to
  52. make it disappear (registration will make it disappear
  53. permanently!).

  55. A.Editing
  56.      You will immediately be in edit mode in the first channel
  57. description field. You can start by typing the name of your
  58. favorite station. As you press each letter, that letter will
  59. automatically append itself to the entry. If you see it on the
  60. line, it is the content of that field. Pressing <ENTER> at the
  61. end is not necessary (It will just send the cursor to the next
  62. line). Pressing <TAB> will send you into the frequency edit
  63. field, which DOES require you to press <ENTER> after typing in
  64. the frequency. In other words, entering an entry requires
  65. pressing the following keys:

  69.      Entries will appear as white until you sort, move to another
  70. bank or go to DualView mode.  After returning from those
  71. functions, ScanPRO will automatically analyze all entries for
  72. keywords and display them in their characteristic color. Entries
  73. not containing keywords will be displayed in grey.

  75. B.Moving Around in Edit and DualView modes
  76.  
  77.      <PgUp><Pgdown> will move you through the banks. Arrow keys
  78. will move you between channels. <HOME> will send you to the first
  79. selection in a bank, and <END> will send you to the last entry in 
  80. the bank.
  81.      Pressing F4 will automatically switch you VGA monitor to
  82. 50x80 text mode, enabling you to view two banks at a time. The
  83. only actions you can perform in this mode are <PgUp> and
  84. <PgDown>. <ESC> will return you to edit mode.

  86. C.Printing A Report
  87.  
  88.      Pressing F1 will display a dialogue box asking to confirm
  89. your choice to print a full 4-page report of all banks to the
  90. printer. The report will display the header:

  98. In regular size print. The remainder of each page will vertically
  99. list the contents of each bank, 3 banks per page in three
  100. columns in compressed mode.

  102. D.Saving To Disk
  103.  
  104.      Pressing F2 will display a dialogue box asking you to
  105. confirm your request to overwrite the existing default file
  106. default.fil. Answering "y" will save all 400 channels to the
  107. file.

  110. E.Opening files from disk
  111.      
  112.      Pressing F3 will display a dialogue box asking you to
  113. confirm your request to load the default file. All existing
  114. entries you have entered will be erased, so be sure to only
  115. append to your default file.

  117. F.Sorting
  118.  
  119.      Pressing F5 will display a dialogue box asking to confirm
  120. your choice to sort the bank alphabetically. answering "y" sort
  121. the entire bank, placing empty entries on the end.

  123. G.Looking up 10-codes
  124.  
  125.      Pressing F6 will display a dialogue box asking you to enter
  126. the number of the 10-code to look up. It will then display the
  127. message that 10-code represents. For example:

  132.      The standard DOS text file "code.dat" contains all 10-codes
  133. currently used by most police departments in New Hampshire. If
  134. different codes are used in your area, you may create a new
  135. "code.dat" file using any standard text editor. Simply type in
  136. each message IN ORDER, followed by a newline, just like the
  137. default "code.dat" file. The program determines the position of
  138. the 10-code by counting lines so do not leave empty lines in the
  139. file and keep the messages in ORDER!

  141. H.Searching
  142.  
  143.      Pressing F7 will display a dialogue box asking you to enter
  144. a frequency to search for. The program will then search all 400
  145. channels and display each entry match. You may toggle through
  146. these by pressing <ENTER>. This is a good way to identify little-
  147. heard stations when you pick them up, or to check all 400
  148. channels for duplicates.

  150. I.Exiting the program
  151.  
  152.      Pressing <ESC> in edit mode will prompt you to verify your
  153. exit from ScanPRO. Be sure to save any changes before exiting
  154. the program.

  163.      I hope you enjoy using ScanPRO. After using a lot of fine
  164. scanning programs, I wanted to write one which had all the
  165. features that I most needed, and that could perform any function
  166. at anytime with a quick keypress, so that I could use it while
  167. monitoring to find unknown 10-codes or unrecognized frequency
  168. receptions. This is why all functions are regulated to the F7
  169. keys, and why you don't have to press <ENTER> to edit a field.
  170. Just about everything is on-the-fly!
