TH78A.9
Mod 1 - Cross-band repeat:
Remove D4. Reassemble. Reset the CPU by holding [M] and power on. To
activate cross-band repeat press [F] for one second and press [0]. Repeat
to deactivate. The active band becomes the transmit band. You can tell the
rig is in cross-band mode by blinking decimal points on both bands.
Mod 2 - MARS
(Note: Skip this mod if you are going to perform the Beyond Mars mod.)
Remove D6. Reassemble. Reset the CPU by holding [M] and power on. Range
on 2m is Rx 118.000 to 173.995, Tx 142.000 to 151.995 and on 70cm Rx 400.000
to 511.990, Tx 420.000 to 449.990.
Mod 3 - Beyond MARS
(Note: For Beyond Mars to work D6 MUST be left on the board.)
Remove D5. Reassemble. Reset the CPU by holding [M] and power on. This
gives you a 300MHz band and a 800MHz band. No transmit is possible on these
two new bands. To activate them press [F] for one second and press [BAND].
The 2m band will switch to 300MHZ and the 70cm band will switch to 800MHz.
300MHz Band Rx range: 300.000 to 399.990
800MHz Band Rx range: 800.000 to 949.990
Note: All ranges depend upon the setting of your step size. Not much
difference one way or the other, just how close to the edge you can get.
These mods are NOT FCC type-accepted. They are for experimental use only.
Transmission in the MARS, CAP or any other non-amateur sub-band requires
proper licensing.
(Note: My TH-78A began to operate erratically with my first modification
which included removing D5 AND D6. I verified that for Beyond Mars D6 must
remain on the board. Performing the Beyond Mars mod includes the TX/RX
range of the Mars mod.)
