  16. MODEL: TM-733A
  17. SUBJECT: PL Tone Bleed Through 
  18.  
  19. Symptom: When transmitting a PL tone a "humming noise" might be heard 
  20. coming from the internal speaker of the TM-733A. This is caused by a 
  21. difference of potential between the tone generating circuit and the AF 
  22. amplifier circuit.
  23.  
  24. Countermeasure: This symptom is corrected by tying the ground connections 
  25. in the AF amplifier and Tone generating circuits together.

  35. Procedure:
  36.  
  37. 1. Disconnect the power cable, microphone and antenna's, etc.
  38. 2. Detach the front panel and set it aside.
  39. 3. Remove the top and bottom covers.
  40. 4. Remove the speaker and speaker mounting bracket
  41. 5. Disengage the plastic front panel from the main chassis.
  42. 6. Remove the two Phillips head screws that secure the TX/RX unit to the 
  43.    chassis.
  44. 7. Install the new screws and star washers.
  45. 8. Solder a jumper wire from the ground side of C424 (the one nearest IC405)
  46.    on the Control Unit to pin number 8 of IC7 (next to battery) on the 144 
  47.    Mhz TX-RX Unit.
  48. 9. Reverse steps 1 - 5 for reassembly.

  51. Caution: This modification requires advanced surface mount soldering 
  52. equipment that is rated for CMOS circuits. It also requires familiarity 
  53. with advanced surface mount soldering techniques. If you do not have the 
  54. proper equipment or knowledge do not attempt this modification yourself.

  56. (Long Beach, CA, or Virginia Beach, VA).
