  17. SUBJECT: Power Module Heat Sink Compound 
  18.  
  19. Symptom: Several current and past model transceivers do not use Heat 
  20. Sink Compound on the power modules. Our engineering department determined 
  21. through testing, that those models with fine castings or machined areas 
  22. under the power module do not really require its use. Several service 
  23. facilities and customers have questioned this and are concerned that 
  24. this could eventually cause failure of the power module(s).

  26. Corrective Action: In order to ameliorate any anxiety and to increase your 
  27. confidence, our engineers recommend that you use Silicone Heat Compound 
  28. whenever replacing any of these devices or whenever they must be lifted 
  29. for service of other components on the board. Our production lines will 
  30. begin using this compound again as added protection for these devices.
