  17. SUBJECT: Change of Gate Resistor Type 
  18.  
  19. Symptom: If the final amplifier is operated at excessive transmit levels 
  20. (over 150 watts output) the final FET's may fail and short from Source 
  21. to Gate. If this occurs, the bias resistors used in this circuit may be 
  22. damaged and cause a large amount of smoke to be emitted from the final 
  23. compartment.

  25. Corrective Action: Change the carbon type resistors used for R17 and R18 to 
  26. fuse type resistors. This will prevent an unpleasant odor and smoke from 
  27. the final compartment.

  35. Procedure: Remove the old resistors from their locations on the circuit 
  36. board and install the new resistors directly between the Gate and Source 
  37. of the final transistors.

  39. Caution: If you do not have the proper equipment or knowledge do not attempt 
  40. this modification yourself. Seek qualified assistance from your closest
  41. Kenwood Service Center (Long Beach, CA, or Virginia Beach, VA).

  43. Time required for this moditication is 60 minutes or less.
