  17. SUBJECT: Mixer FET Change 
  18.  
  19. Symptom: Several units were discovered during production by our QC department
  20. that experienced difficuty when the transceiver was being adjusted for an 
  21. S-1 reading on the S-Meter.
  22.  
  23. Countermeasures: Variations in the gain of the devices used for Q16 and Q17,
  24. the second mixers, on the RF Unit (X44-3120-00) appear to cause of this 
  25. symptom. We, therefore, recommend replacing these two transistors with 
  26. 2SK520 (K43) devices. These devices have lower IDSS (Drain breakdown current),
  27. and therefore provide a greater conversion gain. As a result the total gain 
  28. of the circuit is increased.
