  17. SUBJECT: OPTIONAL CONTINUAL CHARGE FOR INTERNALBATTERIES
  18.                                                              
  19.      The internal batteries for memory back-up charge only when the
  20.      radio is on. If the radio is used less than 2 hours a day, the
  21.      internal batteries may not charge sufficiently to retain memory
  22.      if the main power is disconnected. This optional change may be
  23.      made to continuously charge the internal batteries from the main
  24.      power source, whether the radio is on or off.
  25.      
  26.      1. On the RX unit X55-1270-l0, change R94 from 56 OHMS to 120 OHMS,
  27.         l/2W.
  28.         
  29.      2. Cut the foil at the input to Q27 and connect via a 3/4" lead
  30.         to the BB terminal on connector l.
  31.         
  32.      3. Battery charge current will be 15ma nominal.
  33.      
  34.      NOTES:
  35.      
  36.      l. The radio should be connected directly to the vehicle battery
  37.         and not through the ignition switch.
  38.         
  39.      2. Turn the radio off before connecting or disconnecting the
  40.         power cable.

  42.      FOR EARLY UNITS:
  43.      
  44.      3. Before closing the case, check clearance from the back of the
  45.         battery case to the chassis. If very close, add suitable
  46.         insulation between the battery case and chassis.
  47.         
  48.      4. Check for the presence of a 470K l/8W resistor which should
  49.         be located on the bottom of the Control unit X53-1180-xx,
  50.         Connector ll, UP pin. Add if not already installed (and see
  51.         Service Bulletin #829).
