  4.    This distribution disk should contain the following :
  5.  
  6.    1)  Self-extracting ARCHIVE file called 'LOGFILES.EXE' which
  7.         contains the following files :
  8.  
  9.          LOG42.EXE    - main LOGBOOK/DXCC program (v4.2) (303K)
  10.          MANUAL.LOG   - printable manual (76K)
  11.          MANUAL.TOC   - table of contents for MANUAL.LOG (3.7K)
  12.          REGISTER.DOC - mail_in registratio form (2.1K)
  13.          ERROR.RPT    - mail_in error report form (2.9K)
  14.          DOSVAR.BAT   - for setting DOS variable HAMLOG
  15.                         in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. (1.8K)
  16.          DOSVAR.HLP   - Text on usage of DOSVAR batch file
  17.          CURS_ON.COM  - turns on cursor from DOS prompt
  18.          DXCC.DBF     - DXCC database information file
  19.  
  20.    2)  Startup information file called 'README.LOG' (this file)
  21.    3)  Bug listing and fixes file called 'BUG_FIX.RPT'

  23.    * A few notes are listed here. Please read them before starting. *

  26.    CREATING A BACKUP COPY OF DISTRIBUTION DISK
  27.    -------------------------------------------
  28.    Using a clean, formatted floppy, you can copy all the files to a WORK
  29.    floppy by using the DOS COPY command. Insert the ORIGINAL (with write
  30.    protect tab) in drive A and WORK in drive B (if using DUAL floppy) and
  31.    copy A:*.* to B: or copy to a temporary directory on hard disk (if only
  32.    one floppy drive) and then recopy to WORK floppy. Once copied, use the
  33.    WORK disk to extract the files as described below.
  34.  
  35.    ******************************************************************
  36.    EXTRACTING THE LOGBOOK FILES
  37.    --------------------------------
  38.    The basis for the self-contained dearchiving program was derived from
  39.    the PKXA35 program set written by PKWARE, Inc. of Glendale, WI. The
  40.    LOGBOOK/DXCC files are imbedded in the self-contained dearchiving
  41.    program and MUST be extracted to use. This allows all the files to be
  42.    distributed on one (1) disk.
  43.  
  44.    HARD DISK SYSTEM   ******************************
  45.    ----------------
  46.    If you are going to run LOGBOOK from a hard disk, create the required
  47.    directory on the hard disk, and then change to that directory. Place the
  48.    WORK floppy created above in drive A and at the DOS prompt, type the
  49.    following:
  50.  
  51.         A:LOGFILES <DRIVE/PATH>    where <drive/path> is the destination
  52.                                    directory created for LOGBOOK files.
  53.  
  54.    The 'LOGFILES.EXE' file will extract the files contained in it (see
  55.    above) and place them on the hard disk. Once all the files have been
  56.    copied to the hard disk, remove the WORK FLOPPY and store it safely.
  57.    See below on how to print the manual and then try out LOGBOOK.

  59.    FLOPPY ONLY SYSTEM   ******************************
  60.    ------------------
  61.    If you are going to use a floppy only system, you will need two (2)
  62.    formatted 360K floppy disks or one (1) 1.2Meg floppy.

  64.    360K diskettes
  65.    --------------
  66.    Place the WORK floppy created above in drive A. Place a formatted disk
  67.    in drive B: and at the DOS prompt, type the following:
  68.  
  69.    A>LOGFILES MANUAL.* ERROR.RPT REGISTER.DOC CURS_ON.COM DOSVAR.* B:
  70.  
  71.    This will extract all the documents and support files to the floppy in B.
  72.    You will see messages as the program works. When done, place the second
  73.    floppy in drive B: and type at the prompt:
  74.  
  75.        A>LOGFILES LOG42.EXE DXCC.DBF B:
  76.  
  77.    This will extract the program and the DXCC database file to floppy in B.
  78.    This completes the file extraction for floppies. You will need to copy
  79.    the DXCC.DBF file to a data disk and LOG42.EXE to a seperate disk to run
  80.    LOGBOOK (it can be a system disk if required). See below on how to print
  81.    the manual and follow the instructions on configuring the floppy only
  82.    system. READ THE MANUAL COMPLETELY.

  84.    1.2 Meg disks and 3-1/2 disks
  85.    -----------------------------
  86.    If using either of these in a floppy only system, place a formatted disk
  87.    in B: drive and place the WORK floppy in A: drive. Type the following at
  88.    the prompt:
  89.  
  90.           A>LOGFILES B:
  91.  
  92.    This will extract all the files to drive B: disk. Proceed as above.
  93.  
  94.    ************************************************************************
  95.    PRINTING THE MANUAL FOR LOGBOOK
  96.    --------------------------------
  97.    Print the file 'MANUAL.LOG' and 'MANUAL.TOC' to a 66-line/page printer
  98.    (HP laserjets will not print it correctly without setting them up to
  99.    emulate an EPSON printer). There are 25 pages of text of which the
  100.    last two (2) ARE forms to use. There is the REGISTRATION and an ERROR
  101.    REPORT form. Use these forms when needed to register you copy or if
  102.    you find any errors while using LOGBOOK which are outside of those
  103.    discussed in the manual, report it to me on the ERROR REPORT form.
  104.    At the prompt type:
  105.  
  106.                     PRINT MANUAL.* <cr>
  107.  
  108.    This will print the MANUAL.LOG and MANUAL.TOC files to the system printer.
  109.  
  110.    PLEASE READ THE MANUAL IN ITS ENTIRITY BEFORE ACTUALLY STARTING A
  111.    WORKING LOGBOOK. THERE ARE SEVERAL NOTES AND HINTS ON HOW TO MAKE
  112.    THE SYSTEM WORKS MORE SMOOTHLY.
