- Some notes for people who have lost the instruction sheet
- ---------------------------------------------------------
-
- The current data is based on information from a tape received January 1997.
- The database contains 47,503 callsigns.
-
- .............................................................................
-
- If you are reading this, then you have successfully extracted the files off
- the diskette. The supplied program "callsign.exe" checks your video card and
- tries to determine if it can display color. On some CGA boards with composite
- monochrome monitors, the color emulation looks bad. This is also true with
- some laptops. You can force CALLSIGN to use black & white only. To do this,
- you must add 1 line to your autoexec.bat. The line is as follows:
-
- set color=no
-
- If you have a color monitor, and the program thinks you don't, then you can
- force the color by adding:
-
- set color=yes
-
- By default, callsign prints 7 lines per label. The dos variables LINES can be
- used to change this. For example, to set the number of lines to 8:
-
- set lines=8
-
- ............................................................................
-
- If you are like myself, you like to have programs run from any drive, and any
- directory. Under DOS, you can add C:\CALLSIGN to your path= line in your
- autoexec.bat. Unfortunately, CALLSIGN wants to find the datafile in the
- current drive/directory. You can force it to locate the file elsewhere by
- adding the following to your autoexec.bat:
-
- set callsign=c:\callsign\canadian.ham
-
- Of course, if you have the datafile stored somewhere else, you would type in
- the correct location in the above example.
-

-
- Costs & Updates:
-
- The cost of this software is $15.00 Canadian.
-
- I plan on visiting most of the flea markets in southwestern Ontario, and will
- try to set up at the annual Dayton Hamfest. If you send your old disk back
- with your payment, I'll knock off $5.00 as a discount. I should note that I
- will be sending you a new disk of course. I have no formal method of
- determining who has purchased disks from me in the past unless I see the
- old disk.
-
- The Department of Communications updates their database 2 to 3 times a year.
- I will receive the updated tape when it becomes available.
