CAT757.EXE is a Computer Aided Tuning program written for
IBM & MSDOS computers utilizing the YAESU FT-757 GX Mark II
Tranceiver and the YAESU FIF-232C Computer Interface. It was
written in BASIC and compiled with Microsoft's Quickbasic
3.0.
The program exploits the full capability of the FT-757 GX
MK II's capability of sending status back to the computer
(which the older FT-757 GX does not) and displaying it on
the computers screen. Also nearly every front panel function
can be controlled via the computer.
Also, the program has a Stations Directory display where
up to 120 stations can be programmed for instant call-up with
just 1 keystroke.
CONFIGURATION
-------------
The program can be run from either a floppy drive or a
hard disk, just make sure that the two files CAT757.EXE &
STATIONS.DIR reside on the floppy or in the same subdirec-
tory on you hard drive.
Cable the Tranceiver and FIF-232C to the computer via COM
PORT 1
OPERATION
---------
To run the program just type CAT757 at the DOS prompt. You
will then get the Shareware banner followed by a prompt
asking you if you want Color or not. You will then get the
Main Menu with which you can select the different displays.
Hitting [1] will send out a polling instruction to the
tranceiver and give a detailed status display of the
condition of the VFO's, MEMORIES, SPLIT, DIAL LOCKING,
CLARIFIER and what the present OPERATING FREQUENCY is. Any
manual changes made to the tranceiver on its front panel will
not show up on the status display untill another poll is made
of the tranceiver's condition by exiting and re-entering the
STATUS display.
PLEASE NOTE:
The STATUS function only works on the FT-757 GX Mark II. the
older FT-757 GX does not provide status to the tranceiver and
program lock-up will occur.
If program lock-up occurs on the FT-757 GX Mark II when
trying to poll the tranceiver's status, check your
tranceiver, interface and cables as this indicates that no
response is being supplied from the tranceiver and the
program will literally wait forever for the tranceiver to
respond. Resetting the computer is the best way of exiting
this condition.
Hitting a [2] at the Main Menu brings you to the
CONFIGURATION Display where you can make changes to the
operating parameters of the tranceiver. It's use is pretty
self-explanatory and should be easy to use with some
experimentation. Hitting a [3] will bring you to the
STATIONS DIRECTORY display where you can insert up to 120
pre-programmed frequencies. A few have been already entered
for you. The prompt at the bottom of the display allows you
to EDIT (or add) any entries, QUIT to the Main Menu or LOAD
pre-programmed entries into the Tranceiver's Memories.
To EDIT a frequency just hit <E> and you will be prompted
for the entry to edit followed by a prompt:
NAME,FREQ,MODE
enter name followed by a comma ,the frequency (in KHZ)
followed by a comma, and the mode (USB,AM etc). Here is a
sample entry:
WWV,10000,AM
Up to 120 entries can be programmed and are automatically
saved to disk when exiting the STATIONS DIRECTORY.
To load frequencies from the Directory into the
tranceiver's memories just type <L>. you will then be
prompted for memory # and display selection, like this:
INPUT MEMORY #, SELECTION TO LOAD?
Typing 0,10 will load memory # 0 on the radio with Directory
10's contents.
And of course hitting [4] will let you exit to DOS.
The program is very functional and could have had alot of
"bells and whistles" added which may be included in future
releases if acceptance to the Program is widespread.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments
and/or suggestions on the Program.
