AMAZING KENWOOD V.4.2
-- INTRODUCTION --
Amazing Kenwood is a no frills Kenwood radio controller created for fast
and easy radio operations.
I have seen several radio controllers, but they all lacked a function or
two, were too complicated to use, or were specialized for one radio model.
While programming Amazing Kenwood I tried to keep "simple" in mind, and I
think I've managed to do just that.
The first version took about 20 programming hours to complete, and it took
double that just to write this short document :-)
-- COPYWRITE --
Amazing Kenwood is fully copywrited by Demetre Koymanakos.
Amazing Kenwood is released in the Public Domain area, and must be freely
distributed free of charge.
Kenwood, TS-50, TS-140, TS-440, TS-680, TS-711, TS-811, TS-940, R-5000
and IF-232C are copywrited by Kenwood Corp.
-- WARRANTY --
This program is only warranted to take up your disk space, and nothing else.
-- VIRUS PROTECTION --
Amazing Kenwood was originally free from all known virii and trojans,
a built-in anti virii/trojan routine will stop execution of Amazing
Kenwood if it detects any change in the structure of the original
AK.EXE file.
-- HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS --
Amazing Kenwood requires at least a 10 Mhz PC-XT with a serial port COM1,
COM2, COM3 or COM4, a Kenwood IF-232C or compatible interface, and a Kenwood
transceiver or receiver to properly operate.
Amazing Kenwood was successfully tested on a 80486/50 and 80486/66 clone
with a Kenwood TS-140S, and TS-680S.
-- FILES YOU NEED --
AK.EXE -> Main executable file.
AK.MEM -> Default external memory file.
-- AMAZING KENWOOD ENVIRONMENT --
In order for Amazing Kenwood to locate it's memory files, and be executed
from any working directory, the proper DOS environmet must be set in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT.
First you must add the AK full directory path (were all the needed files
are found) in your PATH setting.
Second you must add the SET AMAZINGKENWOOD=<path> (were <path> is the full
path of the AK directory) command.
If you don't wish to make the above changes in your AUTOEXEC.BAT, AK must
be executed from inside the AK working directory itself.
-- INTERNAL COMMANDS --
Once Amazing Kenwood runs, you may have a display such as the one that follows:
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ AMAZING KENWOOD V.4.2 (c) DK 94-95 RUNNING ON A KENWOOD TS-940 - COM4 │

└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The first physical part of the display identifies the program the version
and the Kenwood radio model that is used.
The second physical part will display all the operating information that is
made available by the radio model used, such as VFO frequency, RIT, XIT ect.
And last the third physical part displays the available commands, these are
separated into two types, the immediate commands and the parameter commands.
The first (immediate) commands, such as the 1 - VFO A once used will take
effect at once, the second (parameter) commands, such as the [O] OFFSET
will prompt you at the 25th line of the display for input.
All internal commands are fully described in the manual of the radio model
used.
-- EXTERNAL COMMANDS --
Amazing Kenwood has the following external commands:
/C[CALL] : Set your call sign, this command will overide
the DCS setting of some models.
/D[NAME] : Defines the QSO dbase utility you wish to run,
this utility must be in a valid DOS's path, or in
the Amazing Kenwood working directory.
/F : Defines the data base name for the dbase utility
to load (if supported by the utility).
/H : Produces a short help command.
/N : AK scans for an active serial port, when one is not
defined, this command disables the port scan.
/P# : Defines the Serial Port to be used, 1 to 4 are the four
options available, if an inactive port is selected AK
will scan for an active port.
/R : AK is model sensitive, this command disables the radio
model scan.
/S# : Changes the Command scan time in seconds, 1 to 10 are
the options available with 1 second as a default.
/V : Disables internal virii/trojan scan.
The "/" may be replaced by a "-" for the command separator sign
External command syntax : AK [/command] [/command] [/command]......
-- USING Amazing Kenwood --
There is very little you should be told in order to successfully run Amazing
Kenwood, but some commands need explaining:
EXT MEM:
The external memory option will call up a small data base of commonly used
frequencies. Once selected the AK will load the default AK.MEM file,
you may have as many memory files as you like and load them at will.
The memory files are pure text files, and can be edited with the help of
your favorite text editor.
The memory file consists of four parameters, frequency, mode, vfo, comment,
all separated by comas. Semicolons are ignored.
The memory file must have a maximum of fourty entries, any extra entries are
ignored. The memory files must be located in the working directory of AK.EXE
or in the path directory set by the Amazing Kenwood environment setting.
RIG SWAP:
The rig swap will swap serial ports, by this you can control four different
Kenwood rigs at the same time.
If a non existing or non operating serial port is selected, AK will scan
for an active port.
ERRORS:
Most possible errors have been trapped and you will be informed with a message
at the 25th line of your display.

-- ACKNOWLEDGMENTS --
Since I'm only a SW listener (not for long I hope), all tests were
performed with borrowed rigs, so a thanks is due to my Amateur friends
who lended me their rigs for my tests.
Also a special thanks to all who wrote to me with their opinion of AK.
-- QSL CARDS --
If you like this program, or even if you totally hate it, send me your
QSL card, or a plain post card telling me how much you like Amazing Kenwood
or how much you hate it !!
