T O T A L F A I L U R E
or <link=g54.scr>LaST Party</l> 2000 simply the LAST one?
---------------------------------------------------------- --- --- -- --- -----
by Grey / MSB
Yeah, it's paaaarty time! screamed the polish 8-bit Atari scene and.. stayed at
home. It was the 6th edition of this rather famous Atari party in Poland which
was held in the last days of December, 2000 I have to add at the beginning that
I was NOT present at this party however some information I've got lets me write
these words.
This party always gathered around 40 8-bitters but the current amount was .....
Miserable in delicate words... That's what Vasco (the main organizer) said
after the party:
"The attendance at the last party just push me to think about various things.
Only 10 ppl came but anyway I would like to thank them for coming, here they
are:
- Anj/Tristesse
- Jurgi/Tristesse
- Lizard/Aids
- McMaster/SSG
- Nietoperek/Tristesse
- Pigula/Shpoon
- Pinokio
- Piorun/BBSL
- Yezus/SSG
- -XI-/Satantronic
XI from Satantronic drove through the whole of Slovakia and half of Poland to
come at this meeting. So try to think about that... Just TRY...".
Well, I felt very guilty after reading this.. And it doesn't matter if I really
couldn't come or I don't care about 8-bit Atari scene at all.
If this party shows how the polish Atari scene looks like these days then it
ain't something that cheers me up. Surely the 8bit Atari scene is the strongest
one in Poland but such sad incidents throw some doubt on that.
Last Party seemed to have a strong position for few years. But maybe it's time
to "join forces" and make a real party dedicated to all atarians?
That's something we have to think about, Vasco?
In the meantime I decided to ask Dely / Atari Area, a well known 8-bit Atarian,
aboutthe reason for this small attendance.
GREY: Hi Dely! How do you think, what's the reason of such small attendance
at Last Party 2000?
DELY: Well, it's really hard to ascertain what's the real reason. I think that
we should take attention on the usual problem of every young people -
cash :) Also the fact that party has been held short before the New Year
could be a good explanation.
GREY: What happens at 8-bit Atari scene these days? Is it still alive?
DELY: 8-bit Atari scene still lives, however it ain't that strong as few years
ago, or even a year ago (e.g. the Last Party 99 was very well attended).
New things still show up but in worse amount than before. There is one
serious disk-magazine called "Serious" which keeps quite a good level
and comes out quite regular. Also worth to mention is another great zine
"Syzygy" (Vasco: I'm waiting for the next one :) If you mean about demos
then situation isn't too bright but I am sure that coders will impress
us many times yet with outstanding productions which put us in the
ground. Personally I am waiting for the "Ergo Bibamus" demo from
Quasimodos which is going to be released at "Lato Ludzikow 2001" party
in Poland!
GREY: Could you risk to tell that 8-bit Atari scene simply die? I've heard
about the _VERY_ small attendance at EAST Party as well, is it true?
DELY: Attendance at East Party can't be a good example of the scene quality.
Yes, it's true- not too many ppl came at this party but you have to keep
in mind it was the 1st (and I hope that not the last one) organized by
SSG group.
GREY: Could you try to guess what's the amount of alive sceners on this
machine?
DELY: If you want the most detailed infos about 8-bit Atari sceners (as well
as normal users) I invite you to the latest edition of "Scene Register".
If Grey won't fu*k up then you should get it together with "Chosneck"
magazine :) You can also take a look at my own site (have you seen it
already?) where you can find the users-list with almost 100 ppl mainly
from Poland.
>>>> www.atari-area.net <<<<
GREY: How do you see the future of this scene? Any chance to survive?
DELY: I wish to put the 5.25 disk into my CA2001 floppy-drive in 10 years time
and see the "(c) 2011" date in credits.
GREY: Thanx for your attention! 6502 rulez =)
DELY: Greetings for all readers and ppl from Falcon scene. Don't forget to see
my www-site!
