Grey: Yo, Moonie!
Moonie: Welcome Michal!
Grey: This beginning won't be any more different than usual ;) Yeah, it's
time to say some words about yourself! (ha! don't forget to mention
your step in real life last year! :)))
Moonie: I am a 24 year old chap living in Katowice near Sosnowiec city where
Sqward (our code-head) lives. I work at an Advertising Agency as a
graphician, I do projects like calendars, postcards, folders etc. Two
times per month I go to school. Ah, I would like to inform you about
my other status other than being a graphician. I am also a father and
husband :o). Yup, on the 15th of July 2000 I got married to the woman
of my life, Magdalena, and the very next year on the 26th of November
2001 I became the lucky father to our son Radek. So a whole lot of my
attention is directed to my family, especialy our son now.
Grey: What was your first computer? And what's your current one?
Moonie: My 1st computer? A 130XE of course! The first computer I saw was a
humble 800XL so I asked my mother with teary eyes, if she would buy a
130XE instead. And this succeeded! :o) From this moment on my real
computer madness started. I'd been fascinated playing games and
especialy watching demos (DasOMEN, TheTOP, Landscape...). When I was
17/18 years old I bought a 2nd-hand 520ST+ with the memory extended
to 4MB. The fun only lasted two years when I sold the ST and I bought
a Falcon with 14MB of memory, two hard-disks (which burned out short
after), powered with BlowUP 32MHz turbo everything a in BigTower case
with a TT keyboard. I still have the Falcon today and will keep it
forever. 3 years ago we bought a PC on which I've been learning Corel
Illustrator, Photoshop, Pagemaker and other programs just to find a
job. The sweet times we're spent in front of my 130XE (ah, I forgot,
I still have this machine at my parent's house. Maybe someday if I
find enough space in my room I'll take it back).
Grey: You've been traveling to Atari parties in Poland, however I don't
remember if you took a part in any gfx compo? Am I right? A while ago
I got a mail from Sqward telling me "he had found a new superb gfxman
and he sends me his 1st logo made for us". When I saw it I was simply
stunned. This logo was outstanding!
Moonie: I never took a part in any competition 'coz I didn't have anything to
surprise anyone with. Simply I didn't feel "powerful" enough to
compete with the other graphicians, besides I don't care about fame
in any form. Honestly I mostly cared about the opinion of the rest of
the guys I was co-operating with.
On the other hand I won't hide that it's nice to read words showing
pluses and minuses of every work. It's very motivating. I need it.
Grey: You did a whole graphics in "Abyss" and after this release we were
flooded with mails telling us words like: "what a neat design! great
work!" and so on... Not to mention that many messages were posted on
the DHS bulletinboard! How did you feel after reading these words?
Did you expect this?
Moonie: Nope, I didn't expect such a reaction. I won't hide I've been very
pleased to read such words concerning ABYSS 'coz putting this all
together ate a big part of my time. I am not sure if I will manage to
repeat the latest success but I'll do my best and I hope You will
like it anyway!
Grey: Is there anything that annoys you seeing graphics in Atari demos?
Do they lack anything? What could you suggest?
Moonie: It's hard for me to say anything on this topic Maybe I'll try another
way - there are demos like Hmmm/Escape or Hz-Chemix/Amnesty (Amiga)
which get along without graphics pretty well! I think that graphic
isn't the major point of the demo. Things which really count: ideas,
various effects, dynamics, music and graphics at the end. So how
should this graphic should look ? As best as possible :)
Grey: What hardware and software are you using to make graphics? Do you use
the Falcon as well? And what's your best graphictool on this machine?
Moonie: For 2 years I have been drawing the graphics for MSB using
Illustrator, Corel, Photoshop, 3DMax and Lightwave. I don't have time
to sit in front of the computer and set "pixel by pixel" to create
something sensful, worth the attention. Enough of my free time
attracts _ideas_ concerning the graphics. Eternal siting in front of
the computer could cause a split in my family that wouldn't make me
happy to be honest. I can only add that on 130XE I was pixeling using
DesignMaster, on ST I was quite often using CyberPaint and Deluxe, on
the Falcon my favourite gfx-proggy was (and STILL is) Apex and
PhotoLine.
Grey: What do you think about calling anyone "sick" only 'coz they release
a demo which doesn't work on 4MB machines? Is the 14MB extension for
Falcon a big step forward? Would you go as far to say it's "PC like
behaviour"?
Moonie: Calling anyone "sick" only 'coz they release a demo, disk-mag or game
which requires a bit more than 4MB of memory is rather tactless. If
someone is rich enough to buy upgrades for his pC, why can't he
extend the memory in the Falcon to 14MB for example? 14MB ain't THAT
MUCH! It's symbolic. If I wanted to run Calamus on 4MB (if it would
RUN btw!) I couldn't make ANYTHING on it. Of course it's nice if
someone decides to make a demo running ALSO on a 4MB Falcon, no
question. But we shouldn't have to lay claims that there was also
someone who needed more than these 4MB to release his production! So
we should prepare for such "surprises" in the future. Remember, it's
not the ST it's the Falcon.
Grey: How do you see the future of the Atari scene? Do you think we can
survive?
Moonie: I think that lovers of the older machines won't leave so if such
people survive then our scene will as well. I know that the most
active sceners can change their interest 'coz of their age, work or
getting married. But I really hope that the lack of Atari enthusiasts
and sceners won't become a harsh reality in the future. As long as
there are no conflicts between us - we have a chance to survive for
another couple years.
Grey: Thanx for your time!
