Well, it's finished. It now looks pretty good, but I haven't spent any
time figuring out why the converted files sound nothing like the
original. Mostly because I have only two MIDI files to play with,
neither of which I created myself. But neither of them survives the
conversion without some fatal distortion. I did not write the conversion
routines; all I did was extract them from another program, and package
them up in a neat little Intuition window. You who have downloaded this
file are hereby conscripted and shanghai'ed into being a beta-tester.
In a separate arcfile you can the complete source code as well as a file
from Electronic Arts which "describes" the IFF-SMUS specification. Maybe
you can figure out why the tempo goes south when you go SMUS -> MIDI or
why the quantization screws up when you go MIDI -> SMUS. Frankly, I need
a sequencer which saves standard MIDI files. But right now, my money
goes toward furniture. So send me a few MIDI files, huh? Browse through
all this righteous source code and tell me what you find. Supposedly,
these conversion routines come from the software geniuses at OpCode, so
they *should* be good.
YOU MUST HAVE THE arp.library IN YOUR LIBS: DIRECTORY, OR THIS PROGRAM
WILL *NOT* WORK!!!!!!
