Typewriter, (c) John D. Gerlach, Jr.
non-official sponsor of CUAT: Computer User Against Typewriters.
OVERVIEW:
Typewriter allows easy use of attached printer as a typewriter. It's perfect
for desks that aren't large enough to hold: 1) an Amiga; 2) a printer; AND,
3) a typewriter. It is envisioned for use with envelopes, forms, and other
non-standard printing uses. A typewriter 'meter' is displayed for easy
placement of characters. Standard Amiga printer fonts and styles are
available by menu. For typewriter purists, actions of the backspace key,
and shifted comma- and period-keys may be toggled.
HOW TO USE TYPEWRITER:
Typewriter allows entry and complete editing on a one-line basis. When the
ENTER key is pressed, the line is printed using the current font and style
settings.
If the printer device cannot be opened upon the program's initial startup
(or after being set off-line), a requester is displayed saying so. This
indicates that some other process has control of the printer device.
If/when the other process relinquishes the printer device, select the
'On line' menu item to allow printing within typewriter. When 'Off line',
Typewriter serves virtually no purpose, except possibly typing practice.
Typewriter configures itself in 'Computer' mode, allowing editing and
character generation in the normal computer style. By selecting
'Typewriter' mode, the actions of the backspace-key, and the values of
shifted comma- and period-keys are given the traditional typewriter
interpretation.
Since I have found no way to determine the current state of the printer
device, Typewriter assumes that it is in a clean power-up state when the
program starts. If this is not the case, the menu checks and the printers
state will not match. If in doubt, simply flip the power switch on the
printer. Typewriter does not reset the printer to it's initial state, unless
instructed to do so by menu selection, allowing the printer to be configured
for use by another program.
USAGE / DISTRUBUTION RIGHTS:
The program in it's distributed form, it's original concept, and overall
