Revisions:
18.07.90 Version 35 Rev 0
18.10.90 Version 35 Rev 1
- additional support for 68020/30 longword access
03.11.90 Version 35 Rev 2
- Color 360YDPI mode added, so Epson LQ860
compatible color printers get totaly supported.
Selecting color under Rev 0&1 could lead to a guru.
(I told you: no color option... Now it's there!)
- printer buffer is cleared with longword access
07.01.91 Version 35 Rev 3
- small changes for speed improvements.
- Timeout is now set according to the preferences
graphic settings.
- Timeout is increased for 360YPI and color dumps
because of problems with some slower printers.
Description:
------------
This driver is intended for all those EpsonLQ compatible dot
matrix printers out there. The driver is up to 20% faster
compared to the commodore EpsonQ driver and supports more graphic
modes (see below for additional features).
For the latest version call the above given FIDO/UUCP address or
send me a selfaddressed letter and $10 (this money is only
intended as donation for paying my postage and printer handbooks).
Further donations won't be refused ;-)

EpsonQPlus (24-pin Epson compatible)
----------
1. Dot matrix b&w/color printer (text and graphics).
2. Drives all EpsonQ/EpsonQ+ (LQ1500, LQ2500, LQ860 etc.) compatible printers.
3. Linefeeds # of vertical dots printed.
4. Density XDPI YDPI XYDPI Comments
1 90 180 16200
2 120 180 21600
3 180 180 32400
4 120 360 43200 two pass
5 180 360 64800 two pass
6 360 180 64800 *1
7 360 360 129600 two pass *1
5. A PaperSize of 'Wide Tractor' selects a maximum print width of
13.6 inches (for wide carriage printers).
6. A papertype of 'SINGLE' ejects the sheet with a formfeed after every
dump. This enables Epsons sheet cutting feature. Formfeed
after a graphic dump is sent according to the SPECIAL_NOFORMFEED flag.
Improvements added
------------------
1. The old PaperType function has been removed for a sheet
cutting feature. No more 16pins support ! 24pins should be
mastered by modern printers, specially in 360*360DPI mode...
Selecting SINGLE in preferences ejects the sheet after using
the printer. This enables Epson cutting sheet feature.
Because of a bug in DPaint, don't expect anything from this
feature when working with DPaint
2. Support of more graphic resolutions (360 YDPI) ! Tough,
because of speed, there is no more CR after every linedump.
So if your printer should need a CR, contact me and I'll send you
a copy. I don't no any printer with this
'malfunction', so don't worry to much about it...
Mechanical justification of the printerhead seems to be a
minor CR problem.
3. The driver has been speeded up. Now it's much faster than
a standard WB driver.
4. Extra driver with support for 68020/30 should be included with
this package.
5. Escape sequence for shadow print, copyright sign
and registration sign added.
6. There is now support for selecting different typefaces. Due
to the extended character translation table, the character set
selection commands (aFNT0 - aFNT10) are no longer really needed.
The following fonts are yet supported by Epson LQ+ with additional
cartridges:
0 - Roman (default typeface)
1 - Sans Serif
2 - Courier
3 - Prestige
4 - Script
5 - OCR-B
6 - OCR-A
7 - Orator
8 - Orator S
9 - <ESC>k9 no font yet available ?
10 - <ESC>k10 no font yet available ?
7. Timeout is now set according to the preference settings. In
case something is wrong with your printer you sooner get a
requester. This enables you to cancel a print request more
quickly. How "timeout" is calculated:
b&w or grey + 180YDPI = 20 seconds
b&w or grey + 360YDPI = 40 seconds
color + 180YDPI = 30 seconds
color + 360YDPI = 60 seconds
old commo epsonq driver = always 30 seconds
Special things to note
----------------------
After my first release of an EpsonLQ compatible printer driver I got
many letters from people asking for an unsupported printer driver.
Please:
1. include some money if you want to get answered. Postage takes a
major part of my income (as student I have no real income :-( )
2. in case you found a bug: please give me a full description. In
most cases I can't verify your statements!
3. if you wan't some improvements or you have wishes: drop me a note,
4. if you don't have a driver for your printer or your driver
doesn't fully support your printer: drop me a note with a
description of your printer and maybe I'll do this for you...
(in case you have some bucks too much: don't wait for an answer
and send me a copy of your manual. But remember: there is no
guarantee I'll do the job!)
There will be no single typestroke without a complete copy of
the printer manual!!
5. You can expect more to come (I'm working on RLE and spooler
support). If you use this driver, look out for a new version...
6. please note: this driver is specialy written for Epson
printers. Some other printers maybe compatible with the Epson
commands, but differ in speed. Because of this, there might be a
requester asking you to check your printer cable. In this case
contact me (please regard 1-4 above) for a special version. Don't
forget to tell me how long your printer really needs for a line to
print out (please tell all combinations(!) of: 180YDPI |
360YDPI | b&w graphic | color graphics).
(see also "improvements 7" above!!)
Notes
-----
*1 - in this mode the printer cannot print two consecutive dots in a row.
It is recommended that you only use this density for B&W Shade dumps.
