PCTOT: PC Tools On Tap v0.900
1. DESCRIPTION
PCTOT puts a variety of useful Bridgeboard utilities at your
fingertips, as long as you consider three a "variety". I will add more
as I learn what is needed. After all, I've only had the BB for two
days now.
The three utilities are "move PC Display to the front", "move PC
Display to the back", and "Hard Reset". The first two are only useful
when the PC Display is on a custom screen.
The utilities are activated by pressing a special combination of
keys. The utilities are activated even when the PCTOT window is not
active, visible, or even there at all! This is called a "hotkey"
utility.
The default combination is the "CTRL" key, the "LEFT ALT" key, and
the particular character for the particular utility. If this conflicts
with another "hotkey" program, or if you just don't like it, you can
change it.
2. INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 Basic Operation
PCTOT can be run from the Workbench or from CLI. When it is run,
it displays a title screen for 8 seconds, then displays the help
screen. You can bypass the title screen by clicking inside the window,
or by doing some magic described below.
The PCTOT window opens up inactive (unless you click in it).
Remember, it does not need to be active to do its thing.
The help screen displays the special combination of keys needed to
activate any of the utilities at the top, which defaults to "CTRL-LALT-
(key)". The three utility keys are "F", "B" and "R". Two additional
keys affect PCTOT: the "W" key toggles to the next window size, and the
"Q" key quits PCTOT (but only if the help screen is visible, see
below).
2.1.1 "F": PC Display To Front
This pops the PC Display screen to the front, so you don't have to
wade through any other screens you have going. Don't forget to click
inside the window to activate the display (if that's what you want).
2.1.2 "B": PC Display To Back
This pops the PC Display screen to the back, revealing whatever
screen was just under it.

2.1.3 "R": Hard Reset
This runs the program called "PCHard" which MUST be located in the
SYS:PC directory (as described in the Bridgeboard manual). If it
isn't, nothing happens.
As of this writing, pressing "CTRL-ALT-DEL" to reset does some
strange things, and doesn't always work.
2.1.4 "W": Window Size
This toggles to the next window size for the PCTOT window (not the
PC Display window). Full-size shows the help screen. The next step is
a tiny window. The final step is no window at all. This is the
preferred condition, because it uses absolutely no graphics memory.
The next step will take you back to the help screen.
You can have PCTOT default to any window size, as described below.
2.1.5 "Q": Quit
This quits PCTOT, but only if the help screen is showing. I did
this to avoid accidental quitting. Clicking the close gadget on the
window will quit as well.
2.1.6 "HELP": Display Help Screen
The HELP key (remember, in conjunction with the "hotkey"
combination), will display the help screen. It will bring the
Workbench screen to the front, and then bring the PCTOT window to the
front.
This command is not displayed, because all programs utilize the
HELP key. No? Well, all of MINE do.
2.2 Customizing
PCTOT can be customized by adding a series of keywords. From the
CLI, you simply add the keywords after the PCTOT (separated by spaces).
From the Workbench, you use the "Info" menu selection on the icon, and
add the keywords (separated by spaces) after the "FLAGS=" keyword. The
keywords are order and case-insensitive.
2.2.1 "Q" or "QUICK"
This bypasses the title screen. I thought you'd like that.
2.2.2 "TINY"
This makes the window tiny.

2.2.3 "H" or "HIDDEN"
This makes the window disappear.
2.2.4 Changing the "hotkey" combination
Simply use the following keywords to determine the hotkey
combination. Up to three hotkeys may be specified, but two is easier
to handle.
"CTRL": The CTRL key.
"LSHIFT": The Left-Shift key.
"RSHIFT": The Right-Shift key.
"LALT": The Left ALT key.
"RALT": The Right ALT key.
"LAMIGA": The Left AMIGA key.
"RAMIGA": The Right AMIGA key.
3 MISCELLANEOUS
3.1 Startup Sequence
PCTOT is very handy in your startup-sequence. PCTOT does not
"detach: from the CLI it runs from. This means that the CLI window
will not go away while PCTOT is running, even if you use "ENDCLI".
What you should do is get a copy of "RUNBACK", which is public domain,
and use "RUNBACK PCTOT (keywords)" in your startup-sequence. My
favorite keyword combo for the startup-sequence is "RUNBACK PCTOT Q H".
3.2 Losing PCTOT
If you forget the commands, you simply press the HELP key, in
combination with the hotkeys. What if you forget the hotkeys? Simply
run PCTOT again, from the CLI or Workbench! This will immediately kick
the existing PCTOT into displaying the help screen (as if you activated
HELP, while the new PCTOT will exit quietly.
3.3 Adding more commands
You can't, but I can. Let me know what commands you want added
(using the same envelope that contains your contribution would be
efficient), and I will add them (if I can).
