Stellar War v2.00
Instruction Manual
For the most part, the instructions for this game are quite simple,
and in most cases not needed at all. The game menus themselves are fairly
self-explainatory. This manual will break down each section of the main
menu (threading through all the sub-menus).
-------------------------------
== Show your Statistical Summary ==
-------------------------------
This command simply shows you all of your characteristics as a player
on Stellar War. The lines show as follows:
1) Your name as everyone on the game and BBS know you as
2) Your account number on the game. This is not important for you to
know, but it can be useful if there are errors in your data files.
Tell the SysOp your account number in cases of errors.
3) Shows you how many messages you have sent to other players.
4) Shows you how much money you currently have for use on the Buying
Market.
5) Shows you the number of points you currently have won. At the end of
the 30 day period, the player with the highest number of points wins
the game.
6) Shows you how much general population you have. They do not effect
anything in war, but they can be used for drafting and collecting
taxes.
7) Shows you how many men you currently have enrolled in your army. This
is a large factor in determining the war outcome.
8) Shows the number of fighters you currently have available for war.
Although these impact a war quite a bit, they come at a price.
9) Shows the number of carriers you currently have. Each carrier can hold
a maximum of 150 men. This means that during a war, only the number of
men that were able to be taken in the carriers will actually fight.
10) Shows how many planets/asteriods you are inhabiting with your people.
Each planet holds approximately 10,000 people.
11) Shows the number of battles you have won.
12) Shows the number of battles you have lost.
13) Shows your general win/loss percentage of battles.
14) Shows the moral of your men. This is another very important
determining factor during a war. You can frequently beat another army
bigger than yours if your moral is higher then the enemies.
----------------
== Send a Message ==
----------------
When this is selected, a sub-menu appears on the screen. The commands are
as follows:
1) SEND A MESSAGE. If this is selected, two more requesters will appear
on the screen. First, you must enter the CORRECT name of the person
you are sending this message to. Second, you must put some sort of a
description (title) for your message. Lastly, simply enter your
message. This is quite easy to do, HOWEVER, no line advancement or
word-wrapping functions are implemented. You must do that yourself.
2) LIST CURRENT USERS. This will show you a list of all the people
currently playing the game. This will give you a better idea how to
spell names and who to send your message to.
3) QUIT TO MAIN MENU. This will bring you back to the main menu prompt.
-----------
== Draft Men ==
-----------
This can only be used in a time of extreme crisis. This is when your
win/loss percentage is so low that the men can no longer fight. The
program will not allow you to draft men if they are not needed.
-------------------------
== Trade with another user ==
-------------------------
Once this command is entered, you will see a prompt asking you who you
would like to trade with. Enter the name of the person you will be doing
your business with. Now another prompt will come up on the screen. This
list is all of the attributes you posses and can give away to another user.
ONce you trade an item away, you cannot get it back by your own power. By
selecting this, you WILL be giving the other player some of your resources.
The other player is notified of the trade.
Next a second menu will pop up. This again shows all of the
attributes you have or can receive from someone else. Here you must decide
what item you would like the other user to give to you for your trade to
them. The system will only tell the other player what you have requested.
Then it is up to the other player to decide if he is going to give you what
you request or not, but they are not forced to do anything. The only way
such a thing can be enforced is by war if that becomes necessary.
-----------------------------------
== Request Trade with another player ==
-----------------------------------
This menu functions exactly like the Trade menu, except that nothing
actually takes place as far as resource transfers are concerned. The first
prompt will ask you who you want to request trade with. Once you have
entered a valid name, a second menu will appear. In this menu, you will
select what item you would like to request of another user. One you enter
this the user will be notified.
Now a second menu will appear. In this menu you will be asked what
you will give in return. Make your selection. You will not actually loose
what you have promised to give away, but the other player will be notified
that you request something from them, and in return you will give them
something else.
The other player can simply decline the offer, or take you up on it.
---------------------
== Buy and Sell Market ==
---------------------
When this menu is selected, a sub menu will appear asking you which
market you would like to go to...the Buy market or the Sell market. If you
select the BUY market, a graph of available items will be shown. By each
item is a price. This price is per item. The last column of this graph
shows you how many of an item you currently have. Select the number of the
item you want to purchase. The system will show you the maximum amount you
can buy with the money you have. You do not have to buy that amount, but
you will not be permitted to go over that limit.
The sell menu works much the same way. Instead of buying an item, you
are selling it. Of course the re-sale value of the item is lower than the
original price. After making your selection as to what you are going to
sell, a prompt will appear asking you how many you are going to see, also
showing you the maximum amount you currently own. Immediately after the
sale, your money will increase.
-------------------
== Collecting Taxes ==
-------------------
This serves as another way to earn money for your army. It is
important, however, to be aware at the restlessness of your population
after you tax them. Taxing them too many times will almost certainly
result in a widespread revolt.
-------------------
== Waring and Spying ==
-------------------
When this is selected, another menu will appear. The first selection
is the most complicated part of the program (although it is fairly easy for
the user to control). When you select this, you will be prompted at to who
you want to go to war with. After entering the proper name of your
opponent, you are asked how many of each attribute you are going to send.
You may not send more than you have. By pressing return at the prompts,
the system will automatically send the maximum amount. If you do not want
this amount, obviously you will have to enter it yourself.
The rest of this procedure is self-automated, but will show you the
events of the war as they take place (which is a unique feature). At the
end of the actual war, you will be shown a briefing on the war in the form
of a news article. Once that is finished displaying, you will be shown an
account of men, fighters, carriers, battle-ships, and planets lost or
gained. It will show the same statistics for the enemy. The final screen
in this sequence shows you the amount of people drafter you (or from) your
army, and a few other casualty reports.
The second selection from the War and Spy menu is spying. This works
very much like the buying and selling market. Here you will be prompted as
to who you want to spy on. When you enter the correct name, a list of the
opponents attributes will be posted. You will only be shown those
statistics that you pay your spies to find out for you. If you have not
paid for an item, a "UNKNOWN" will be shown in its place. Each attribute
costs a different amount of money. The prices are set according to the
importants of the information.
The third selection of the War and Spy menu is listing the people
playing the game (as is many other places throughout the game).
And finally, you can quit back to the main menu.
------------------------------
== Setting your defense tactics ==
------------------------------
When and if you are attacked by another player at some point during
the 30 day period, Stellar War must know how many people to send to the
battle. By using this menu, youwill be able to control the percentage of
your forces that will be sent. The reason for the percentages rather than
actual numbers is simple. It fluxuates with the growth or decline of your
forces. This can be very usefull if you control an army that fluxuates
frequently. If you do not choose to set the parameters, the default
percentage is 80%.
---------------------------
== Show instructions of game ==
---------------------------
This displays the text file you are now reading.
---------------------
== Show the game story ==
---------------------
This displays the "history" of your current situation. It will
explain why all of this fighting and chaos is occuring. Its only use is to
further explain the game.
