WinSwim
Swimming for Windows
Version 3.2
by
Wernke zur Borg
"Swimming", also known as "Schnauz" in southern regions of germany, is a
fast card game for four players. In WinSwim, the PC takes the place of
three of the players. The onus of the game is not to win, but NOT to loose.
Each player tries to "stay alive" by continuously swapping his/her cards with
those in the centre of the table. Thus the essence of the game is equivalent
to the saying "sink or swim" - from which the game gets its name. While
"swimming" each player may continue to play, those that "sink" exit the game.
The last remaining player wins the game.
System Requirements
-------------------
You will need a PC with at least a 386 processor and Windows 3.1. A sound card
is also supported, but is not a requirement. The program takes up approx
0.8 MB of disk space, plus a further 0.5 MB for the sound files. If you
don't wish to make use of the sound feature you can delete the "SOUNDS"
directory and its contents.
The graphics have been designed for 800x600 SVGA screen relolution.
You can also use standard 640x480 graphics, although the cards appear
somewhat larger in this case. So if you do have a SVGA card, this should
be set to 800x600 resolution. You can do this in the Windows-Setup
/ Options (Main group).
Installation and running
------------------------
The installation procedure is initiated by running the program "INSTALL.EXE".
Should Windows not be running already, it will be started automatically. You
can install either the german or the english version of WinSwim. The
installation itself is self-explanatory, and on completion the WinSwim
help text will be displayed.
The game is started simply by clicking on the icon created by the installation
program.
Further information including the rules of the game may be found in the
online help.
In the unlikely event that you should not wish to keep your copy of WinSwim,
you can remove all constituent files by clicking on the "Uninstall".
Obtaining full versions and registration
----------------------------------------
The attached program is distributed as under the shareware principle, and
is a fully functional demo-version with only some inbuilt restrictions.
In order to run the fully fledged version, you will need to register.
The cost of registration is DM 15,-, in exchange for which you will be given
a registration number. When entered, this will enable you to run the full
version of WinSwim using the software you have already installed - there
is no need for dispatch of a floppy disc.
Details outlining the differences between the demo and the full version
are also documented in the online help.
