  11. These are some introductory notes for Smiles.

  14. Overview
  15.  
  16. This program is easy to learn and easy to run.
  17.  
  18. The instructions are contained in a Help file which you can get to with 
  19. the click of a button. You can keep the instructions on the screen while 
  20. you learn how to use the program. 
  21.  
  22. The program loads the items in your chosen file into cells. Clicking on a 
  23. cell will show you what it contains. You must match each cell with another 
  24. cell which contains its translation or equivalent. You can scramble the 
  25. contents of some or all of the cells for a greater challenge. You can also 
  26. adjust the time the cells are exposed.

  28. When you are right you get rewarded with Smiles and music. Wonderful.

  30. This program requires Windows 3.1, the True Type font option installed 
  31. and enabled, and an unzipping utility. If you have Windows 3.1 you can 
  32. run True Type fonts.

  35. INSTALLATION
  36.  
  37. 1. In order to install this program, open the File menu from Program Manager.
  38. and Select Run. If the files are on a floppy, type the letter
  39. of the drive that the floppy is in, a colon, and the word "Install", and 
  40. press Enter. If the files are on a hard disk directory, type the path, 
  41. a backslash and the word "Install" and press Enter. Or, run "Install.exe"
  42. from File Manager

  44. 2. You can check if you have the True Type option enabled by
  45. opening the Fonts program in the Control Panel group, clicking on the True 
  46. Type button and seeing if the enabled box is checked. If so, fine. If not,
  47. check it, click the OK button and then restart windows.
  48. You can also call up the Font program by running RussFont, a program 
  49. included with this package (see 3. below).

  51. 3. If you want to use the programs to study Russian, you must install a 
  52. Russian font, which is included. I have also included a program to help you
  53. install the font, called RussFont. 
  54.  
  55. 4.  If the Install program will not load everything, then put all of the
  56. files into a directory of your choice except Smiles1.hlp, which goes in
  57. you main Windows directory.

  64. This program is not free. It is Shareware. This means that you may try it 
  65. out before you decide whether or not to buy it. After you have tried it 
  66. out, if you intend to keep using it you must register it by sending $19.95 
  67. plus $1.75 for postage and supplies to

  73. When you register you will receive a version of Smiles that lets you load 
  74. files you have created, Smiles files with approximately 3500 vocabulary 
  75. words and expressions (750  each for French, German, Italian and Spanish; 
  76. 500 for Russian), more Smiles data files, a program, Go Learn It!, that 
  77. lets you create your own Smiles files, and with which lets you test 
  78. yourself  by multiple choice and fill-in (and which has many nifty 
  79. options), and another game which you have not played before, and with 
  80. which you can waste time.

  82. You may give the program to as many people as you wish. When you do so, you 
  83. must transfer all the files on the disk or in the .ZIP file. Each user 
  84. must send in the registration fee and costs unless they are members of the 
  85. same household or family as someone who has registered.

  87. You can pay be check or charge the fees and costs to your Visa or 
  88. Mastercard. If you charge it, use the orderform (orderfrm.txt) or send me 
  89. your card number, card expiration date and signature.

  91. I receive no other income from my programming. Equipment costs, supplies, 
  92. mailings and BBS upload time are all paid out of my pocket. Therefore, if
