To get going fast, see "Help;Quick start..."
S C R E E N L A Y O U T
The screen from top to bottom, left to right shows:
The menu bar and speedbar. See "MENUS" below.
The scoring area. See "Help;Scoring...".
The table where cards are played.
In the lower left corner is the Euchre Wizard.
See "Help;Wizard..."
Your cards appear below the table once the hand is dealt.
The very bottom of the window is the message bar. This always
lets you know what the program is waiting for you to do.
M E N U S
Speedbar:
Some menu options can be executed from the speedbar.
This row of icons is located just below the menu bar.
Options are marked below with a "+S" if this is the case.
To find out what a particular icon will do, put the
mouse pointer over it. A description will be displayed
in the message bar at the bottom of the window.
File
New Player... +S
This will allow you to enter a name and start a statistics
file on the disk. The name is limited to 8 characters and
must be a valid DOS filename. Any .XXX extenstion to the file
will be removed and .DAT is appended to the name you chose.
Get Player... +S
This prompts for a name and loads that player's data. The
game will continue where you left off, even if you had quit
in the middle of a game earlier.
Exit...
Quits the program. Don't worry about saving, your game is
automaticly saved.
Game Menu
Deal +S
If the last hand is over, this option will start the next
deal. Or instead, you can just click the mouse to continue.
Last... +S
Shows the last trick taken, or if selected before a trick
has been won, it will show the card that was up for bidding.
It is standard courtesy in most any card game that the
players are allowed to see only the last trick taken.
Stats... +S
This window can be called up any time during play.
See "Help;Stats..."
Speed Controls +S
When + or - are pressed, the speed of play is changed, +
means faster, - means slower. The speed setting is auto-
saved with everything else.
Options Window
This dialog lets you change the names of the four players.
You can also edit the bet amount and the amount wagered for
each euchre. To accept your changes, press OK, otherwise,
press cancel.
Help Menu
Displays help text, like this one, on the selected subject.
T H E G A M E
This section explains how to control the software as you
progress through one hand of Euchre. See "Help;Rules..."
for an explanation of how to play Euchre.

Cards are automatically dealt and sorted and separated
into suits according to the card dealt up and placed on
the table by the dealer.
When it is your turn to bid, the appropriate dialog will
appear over the scoring area. Simply choose your response
and click "OK." When a round of bidding ends, (either when
everyone passes, or someone makes trump,) you must click
the mouse to clear the bids and continue.
Round one:
The card up for bid in the first round is on the table next
to the dealer. You have the option of making this suit
trump by selecting play, or passing (the default action.)
If your hand is good enough, you can choose to "play alone"
without your partner's help.
Press "OK" when you've selected your bid.
Round two:
If all players pass, there is a second round of bidding.
You may now choose any suit except the one which was up for
bid in round one. Again you may pass, or choose a suit.
You have the option to check the alone box to play alone.
Press "OK" when you've selected your bid.
D I S C A R D I N G
If you are the dealer and have been ordered to play during
round one of bidding, you will need to select a discard.
The up card will be moved to the immediate left of your other
cards. You must select one of the six cards to throw away.
If you forget which card you threw away, you can use the
"Game;Last..." option to review your choice. You can only do
this up until the time you play a card on the first trick.
After that, "Game;Last..." will show the last card everyone
played.
P L A Y I N G
When it's your turn to play a card, a message will appear
below your cards and you will need to choose one of
the cards by its number or click on it with the mouse.
If nothing happens, you are probably trying to make an
illegal play. Remember, if the left bower is lead (the
jack of the same color suit is trump.) You must follow
suit by playing a trump, not that card's apparent suit.
Once you've selected a legal play, that card will be moved
to the table. When all players have played a card on this
trick the game will indicate the winner of the trick and
pause to let you review the outcome. Click to continue.
