  5. CRUSADE is a game of spaceploitation, with you as the Emperor of
  6. the galaxy, commanding a force of powerful starships and land
  7. units to help to exercise your will.  Your objective ...  is
  8. simply to conquer or colonize every planet in the galaxy!

  10. This game is shareware.  You may freely try it.  If you like it
  11. or find it useful, then you must register with MVP Software.  To
  12. "register" a shareware game means to purchase it directly from
  13. the developer.  (Shareware games are evaluation versions only,
  14. which means you have the right to try them, but after trying them
  15. you must either register them with the author or delete them from
  16. your system.  It is unlikely that anyone will check up on you, so

  77. TUTORIAL
  78.  
  79. There is an on-line tutorial available to you once you execute
  80. CRUSADE from Windows.  It is located within the HELP information
  81. which can be accessed by selecting the "Help" menu item.
  82.  
  83. Installation instructions are provided later in this file.

  85. The crusade contained in this shareware version is called
  86. "sharstar.g" and takes place within the SharStar Galaxy.  It is
  87. the first crusade you should play with this version of CRUSADE.
  88. Instructions for loading the crusade can be found within the
  89. tutorial.

  91. A more difficult crusade is provided called "hardstar.g" which you
  92. should play after completing the "sharstar.g" crusade.

  94. CRUSADE COMPUTER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  95.  
  96. The CRUSADE game requires MS Windows 3.1 or Windows95 to run.  Your
  97. computer should be an IBM PC Compatible 386, 486 or Pentium that
  98. operates at 25Hz or faster, and contains at least 4MB of Memory.
  99. CRUSADE needs 4MB of free hard disk storage to uncompress and
  100. operate.
  101.  
  102. If you have a 386 based computer, then you should play CRUSADE at
  103. the 640x480x16 resolution to obtain the best game performance.
  104.  
  105. If you have a 486 based computer, then you can play CRUSADE up to
  106. the 800x600x256 resolution for the best performance.  CRUSADE can
  107. play at higher resolutions.  However, CRUSADE will perform better at
  108. the lower resolutions.
  109.  
  110. If you have a Pentium based computer, then you should enjoy
  111. excellent performance from CRUSADE at any supported resolution.

  113. SOUND CARD SUPPORT
  114.  
  115. Sound Support is provided through the use of MPC2 Compatible
  116. Soundcards.  Most of the popular soundcards (SoundBlaster, Pro
  117. Audio, Turtle Beach, etc.) are MPC2 Compatible.  The soundcard
  118. package typically contains a symbol that indicates MS Windows
  119. compatibility, which often, but not always, means the soundcard is
  120. MPC2 Compatible.  If you have a question regarding your soundcard,
  121. then contact the dealer where you obtained the soundcard, or better
  122. yet, contact the manufacturer of the soundcard.

  124. INSTALLATION
  125.  
  126. CRUSADE can be installed using a "setup.exe" program contained
  127. within the zip file or by using the Program Manager in Windows.
  128.  
  129. You should place the 1CRU117.ZIP file in a directory of its own, and
  130. use PKUNZIP to unzip it.
  131.  
  132. USING "SETUP.EXE" TO INSTALL CRUSADE
  133.  
  134. After unzipping the Crusade in Space file, use the Program Manger in
  135. Windows to run the installation setup program, "setup.exe".
  136.  
  137. From the Program Manager menu:
  138.  
  139. 1) Select FILE/RUN.
  140. 2) Select BROWSE.  Select the disk/directory where the unzipped
  141.    contents of 1CRU117.ZIP currently reside.
  142. 3) Select "setup.exe" from the list of files extracted from
  143.    1CRU117.ZIP and click OK.
  144. 4) Follow the prompts provided by the setup program to move CRUSADE
  145.    to another disk/directory, and to create a program item to
  146.    execute it.
  147.  
  148. USING PROGRAM MANAGER TO INSTALL CRUSADE
  149.  
  150. After unzipping the shareware file, use the Program Manger in
  151. Windows to create a program item for CRUSADE, which should execute
  152. the "star.exe" program.
  153.  
  154. From the Program Manager menu:
  155.  
  156. 1) Select FILE/NEW.  Accept the "Program Item" setting and click OK.
  157. 2) Enter "Crusade in Space" in the "Description" field.
  158. 3) Select BROWSE.  Select the disk/directory where the unzipped
  159.    contents of CIS117.ZIP currently reside.
  160. 4) Select "star.exe" from the list of files extracted from
  161.    1CRU117.ZIP and click OK.
  162. 5) Enter the complete path (disk/directory) where the unzipped
  163.    contents of the shareware version currently reside, in the
  164.    "Working Directory" field.
  165. 6) Select CHANGE ICON, select the CRUSADE icon.
  166. 7) Click OK to complete the creation of the program item.

  168. REGISTRATION
  169.  
  170. When you register CRUSADE you will receive the CRUSADE GENERATOR
  171. which will allow you to create an unlimited number of variably sized
  172. and populated galaxys with the "Galaxy Generation Feature"; and will
  173. allow you to create an unlimited number of games of various
  174. difficulty, alien mix and to even customize the complement of forces
  175. each side receives with it's "Game Generation Feature".
  176.  
  177. You also will receive the licensed version of the CRUSADE PLAYER
  178. (which does not have finite stardates); which can play the games you
  179. generate, and the four (4) SPECIAL CRUSADES that are offered below.

  183.    "The Terrans Emerge!" - As the Terran Emperor, you will control
  184.    the development of the Terrans out into the KausKais Galaxy.
  185.    What lifeforms will you encounter?  What challenges face you?

  187.    "Zardulan Quest" - You command the most powerful lifeform in the
  188.    universe ....  the mighty Zardula.  All others bow before you ...
  189.    or will they?  Try to conquer the De'atar Galaxy if you dare.

  191.    "A Tioran Test" - As the leader of the timid Tiorans, can you
  192.    still manage to conquer the KausKais Galaxy against great odds?

  194.    "The Cassian Challenge" - The most agressive and powerful
  195.    lifeform of the universe awaits your puny empire.  Ha!  Ha!  You
  196.    will not win this crusade into the De'atar Galaxy.

  201. This is a very complex game, that plays in a simple manner.
