  7. Der Disk Helper V5.0, ein SharewarePRG
  8. aus den USA, ist neben DIR-Master V4.1
  9. eines der genialsten Diskettenanwender-
  10. programme fuer den C64! 
  11. Damit ein leichter Einstieg in dieses
  12. maechtige Programm gewaehrleistet ist,
  13. folgt nun eine deutsche Kurzanleitung
  14. und die engl. Original-Anleitung.

  39. - 1st Menu - Option (A): Disk Directory
  40. =======================================
  41. This option will display the disks
  42. header, id, operating system, whether
  43. the write protect notch is covered,
  44. number of blocks used, and the number
  45. of blocks free.  Then displayed for
  46. each file is its number of blocks,
  47. filename, and filetype.
  48.  
  49. You may pause the listing of the files
  50. by pressing the [SPACE] bar.  Press any
  51. key to resume listing.  You may abort
  52. the listing by pressing the [A] key.
  53.  
  54. Error files [*] and protected files [<]
  55. are noted after their filetype.

  57. - 1st Menu - Option (B): Format Disk
  58. =======================================
  59.  
  60. This option will prepare a new disk for
  61. data storage or will erase a disk
  62. containing unwanted information.
  63.  
  64. To do a "quick format," on a disk which
  65. has already been formatted and contains
  66. unwanted information, press [RETURN]
  67. when asked for the disk ID.  If this
  68. type of format fails, use the regular
  69. format and enter an ID.
  70.  
  71. Once formated all information will be
  72. totaly lost!
  73.  
  74. To abort press the [A] key when
  75. prompted.
  76.

  78. - 1st Menu - Option (C): Initialize
  79.                          Disk Drive
  80. =======================================
  81. This option will position your disk
  82. drives head at track 18 and will return
  83. your disk drive to the same state as
  84. when turned on.
  85.  
  86. Use this when your drive won't respond
  87. correctly or when it seems to become
  88. confused.  If this still doesn't work
  89. try turning your drive off then on
  90. again.
  91.  
  92. Make sure you have a formated disk in
  93. the drive when you use this option.
  94.  
  95. To abort press the [A] key when
  96. prompted.
  97.

  99. - 1st Menu - Option (D): Rename File
  100. =======================================
  101. This option lets you choose a different
  102. filename for any file.
  103.  
  104. You must know the original files name,
  105. which you will type in when prompted.
  106.  
  107. To abort press the [A] key when
  108. prompted.
  109.  
  110. =======================================
  111. - 1st Menu - Option (E): Validate Disk
  112. =======================================
  113. This option will "sort" the files on
  114. your disk to find unused space which is
  115. then made avaliable. It also erases
  116. files which have an [*] by their
  117. filetype, error files.
  118.  
  119. You will be shown how many blocks free
  120. were on the disk before and after you
  121. validated and how many were gained.
  122. There will not always be an increase.
  123.  
  124. Never try to scratch an [*] file,
  125. always validate to get rid of it.
  126.  
  127. To abort press the [A] key when
  128. prompted.

  131. - 1st Menu - Option (F): Scratch File
  132. =======================================
  133. This option erases a file or series of
  134. files from your disk (See option
  135. Unscratch).
  136.  
  137. You must know the name of the file you
  138. wish to scratch.
  139.  
  140. There are many methods of scratching
  141. files.  To learn more about using the
  142. scratch command refer to page 17 of
  143. your Commodore 1541 Disk Drive User's
  144. Guide.
  145.  
  146. Never try to scratch an [*] file,
  147. validate instead.
  148.  
  149. To abort press the [A] key when
  150. prompted.
  151.  
  152. =======================================
  153. - 1st Menu - Option (G): Unscratch File
  154. =======================================
  155. This option will recover a scratched
  156. file.
  157.  
  158. When the program locates a scratched
  159. file it will ask if you want to
  160. unscratch it.  If not it will continue
  161. searching.  If so it will proceed to
  162. unscratch.  You then have to enter a
  163. filetype to be given to the file.
  164. Choose the filetype that it originaly
  165. had, if you cannot remember take a
  166. guess.  It was most likely a Program or
  167. Sequential file.
  168.  
  169. If the file you want to unscratch has
  170. just been scratched and there has been
  171. nothing written to the disk then there
  172. should be no problem.  But, if you have
  173. saved files onto that disk after
  174. scratching the file then I suggest
  175. these steps.
  176.  
  177. 1st: Copy the entire disk to another
  178. disk, a backup.
  179. 2nd: Attempt to unscratch the file on
  180. the original disk.
  181. 3rd: If successful then copy your newly
  182. unscratched file to the backup disk. If
  183. unsuccessful then you at least tried!
  184.  
  185. To abort press the [A] key when
  186. prompted.
  187.

  189. - 1st Menu - Option (H): Error Status
  190. =======================================
  191. This option reports the status of your
  192. disk drive.
  193.  
  194. Use this option when your disk drive's
  195. red error light is flashing.
  196.  
  197. =======================================
  198. - 1st Menu - Option (I): Copy File To
  199.                          Same Disk
  200. =======================================
  201. This option makes another copy of any
  202. file, under a different name, on the
  203. same disk.
  204.  
  205. To abort press the [A] key when
  206. prompted.
  207.  
  208. =======================================
  209. - 1st Menu - Option (J): Copy File To
  210.                          Another Disk
  211. =======================================
  212. This option allows you to make a copy
  213. of a file onto another disk.
  214.  
  215. To use this option you must have the
  216. disk that contains Disk Helper 5.0
  217. ready.  After choosing this option
  218. insert this disk (Make sure it contains
  219. the file "-dh copy 2.0") and press any
  220. key.  The copier will be loaded in
  221. about 10 seconds.
  222.  
  223. Once loaded follow the prompts.  Once
  224. you have selected your options insert
  225. the SOURCE disk (the disk that contains
  226. the file you wish to copy) and press
  227. [RETURN] when prompted.  The file will
  228. begin to read in, if their are no errors it will continue. Once loaded in you will be prompted to insert the DESTINATION disk (the disk you want the file to be copied to).

  230. You may copy as many files as you like.
  231. When you are finished copying insert
  232. the Disk Helper 5.0 disk and press
  233. [RETURN] when prompted.  You will be
  234. back at the Main Menu in about 30
  235. seconds.

  238. prompted.

  241. - 1st Menu - Option (K): Lock/Unlock
  242.                          Disk
  243. =======================================
  244. This option will protect or unprotect
  245. an entire disk from being written to,
  246. including scratching files.
  247.  
  248. WARNING: The format command will still
  249. erase the entire disk.
  250.  
  251. To abort press the [A] key when
  252. prompted.
  253.  
  254. =======================================
  255. - 1st Menu - Option (L): Lock/Unlock
  256.                          Files
  257. =======================================
  258. This option will protect or unprotect a
  259. specific file from being erased by any
  260. other means then formating.
  261.  
  262. To use this option type in the name of
  263. the file you wish to work with.  That
  264. files information will be displayed and
  265. if the file is protected already then
  266. you will have the option of
  267. unprotecting it, and vice versa.
  268.  
  269. Protected files a marked with an < sign
  270. by their filetype.
  271.  
  272. To abort press the [A] key when
  273. prompted.
  274.

  276. - 1st Menu - Option (M): Rename Disk
  277.                          Header
  278. =======================================
  279. This option will retitle your disks
  280. name without reformating the disk.
  281.  
  282. The present disk name will be displayed
  283. and then you will be asked to enter a
  284. new disk name.
  285.  
  286. To abort press the [A] key when
  287. prompted.
  288.  
  289. =======================================
  290. - 1st Menu - Option (N): Rename Disk ID
  291. =======================================
  292. This option will retitle your disks
  293. ID without reformating the disk.
  294.  
  295. The present disk ID will be displayed
  296. and then you will be asked to enter a
  297. new disk ID.
  298.  
  299. To abort press the [A] key when
  300. prompted.
  301.  
  302. =======================================
  303. - 1st Menu - Option (2): Goto 2nd Menu
  304. =======================================
  305. The option will display the 2nd Disk
  306. Helper 5.0 menu.
  307.  
  308. =======================================
  309. - 2nd Menu - Option (O): Alphabetize
  310.                          Directory
  311. =======================================
  312. Will put a disk directory in
  313. alphabetical order.
  314.  
  315. To abort press the [A] key when
  316. prompted.
  317.  
  318. =======================================
  319. - 2nd Menu - Option (P): Squeeze
  320.                          Directory
  321. =======================================
  322. Will read all active files into memory
  323. then write them back without gaps or
  324. scratched files.
  325.  
  326. Useful when you want a file to be saved
  327. at the end of the directory not where
  328. there is a gap in the directory.
  329.  
  330. WARNING: Any scratched files will be
  331. totaly lost...The Unscratch option will
  332. not find them.
  333.  
  334. To abort press the [A] key when
  335. prompted.

  338. - 2nd Menu - Option (Q): View Disk Bam
  339. =======================================
  340. This option will display a map of the
  341. allocated, free, and used directory
  342. blocks of a disk.
  343.  
  344. To abort press the [A] key when
  345. prompted.

  347. =======================================
  348. - 2nd Menu - Option (R): Total Disk
  349.                          Erase
  350. =======================================
  351. The option will totaly erase a disk to
  352. the unformated state.
  353.  
  354. If your having trouble getting a disk
  355. to format, run it through this then
  356. give it a shot.
  357.  
  358. To abort press the [A] key when
  359. prompted.
  360.  
  361. =======================================
  362. - 2nd Menu - Option (S): Disk Error
  363.                          Check
  364. =======================================
  365. This option will check an entire disk
  366. (Tracks 1-40) or selected tracks for
  367. disk errors.
  368.  
  369. If there is an error the first column
  370. is the disk sector.  The second is the
  371. error number.  The third is an error
  372. description.
  373.  
  374. The check will not continue to the next
  375. track if an error has been found.  To
  376. continue press any key.
  377.  
  378. NOTE: Tracks 36-40 will almost always
  379. have errors.  These are normally unused
  380. tracks.
  381.  
  382. To abort press the [A] key when
  383. prompted.
  384.  
  385. =======================================
  386. - 2nd Menu - Option (T): Start & End
  387.                          Addresses
  388. =======================================
  389. This option will display the starting
  390. and ending addresses for a program
  391. file.
  392.  
  393. Both decimal and hex are displayed,
  394. along with the files block size.
  395.  
  396. To abort press the [A] key when
  397. prompted.
  398.  
  399. =======================================
  400. - 2nd Menu - Option (U):Spin Disk Drive
  401. =======================================
  402. This option will spin your disk drive
  403. for up to 99 seconds.
  404.  
  405. Works well for drive cleaning disks.
  406. No error will occur.
  407.  
  408. To abort press the [A] key when
  409. prompted.
  410.  
  411. =======================================
  412. - 2nd Menu - Option (V):Read A Seq File
  413. =======================================
  414. This option lets you display a
  415. sequential file to the screen, or if
  416. you have your printer on and ready to
  417. print, it will print it out.
  418.  
  419. Press any key to pause printing, any
  420. key to resume.  Press "A" to stop
  421. printing.
  422.  
  423. To abort press the [A] key when
  424. prompted.
  425.

  427. - 2nd Menu - Option (W): Seq File
  428.                          Divider
  429. =======================================
  430. This option will break up a larger
  431. sequential file into smaller files of
  432. the same block size.
  433.  
  434. Enter the name of the seq file to divid
  435. then enter the approx. block size of
  436. each file.
  437.  
  438. The divider only stops for the next
  439. file on characters such as ".", "!",
  440. "?".
  441.  
  442. To abort press the [A] key when
  443. prompted.
  444.

  446. - 2nd Menu - Option (X): Thank You
  447. =======================================
  448. This option shows the people who have
  449. participated in Disk Helper 4.0's
  450. SHAREWARE program.
  451.  
  452. Yes, that IS correct... Only ONE person

  455. If you wish to be included in Disk
  456. Helper 6.0's "Thank You" section, then

  458. address that apperars at the begining

  465. - 2nd Menu - Option (Y): Exit To Basic

  467. This option will take you back to
  468. Commodore 64 Basic.

  481. Quick Disk Directory - Press "F1" Key.

  483. Will display a quick directory which
  484. can't be paused only aborted, by
  485. pressing any key.

  487. Documemtation (HELP!) - Press "F3" Key.
  488.  
  489. Will display a menu almost exactly like
  490. the main.  Press the "F7" key to switch
  491. to 2nd menu.  Follow on screen prompts
  492. to read doc's.  To print them, have
  493. your printer on and ready to print.  It
  494. will print automaticly.
  495.  
  496. Cursor Control movement.
  497.  
  498. The Home key will take you to the first
  499. option of the menu.
  500.

  541. (A) Disk Directory: Diese Funktion 
  542. zeigt jedes einzelne File mit Laenge,
  543. Filetyp usw. an.

  545. (B) Format Disk: Formatiert eine 
  546. Diskette reichlich langsam aber umso
  547. wirkungsvoller.

  549. (C) Initialize Disk Drive: Positioniert
  550. den Schreib-/Lesekopf der Floppy auf
  551. Track 18. Hilft bei momentaner Bewust-
  552. losigkeit des Laufwerkes...

  554. (D) Rename File: Benennt ein File um.

  587. (M) Rename Disk Header: Benennt den 
  588. Header der Disk um.

  590. (N) Rename Disk ID: Aendert die Identi-
  591. fikationsnummer der Disk.

  593. (O) Alphabetize Directory: Ordnet die
  594. Files auf der Diskette in alphabetisch-
  595. er Reihenfolge.

  597. (P) Sqeeze Directory: Aehnlich Validate
  598. Funktion! Liest und schreibt Files ohne
  599. unnuetze Luecken wieder auf die Disk.
  600. ---------------------------------------
  601. (Q) View Disk BAM: Zeigt die Block
  602. Allocation Map an, die die Belegung der
  603. einzelnen Sektoren der Diskette gra-
  604. fisch sichtbar macht!
  605. ---------------------------------------
  606. (R) Total Disk Erase: Versetzt eine
  607. Diskette wieder in den unformatierten
  608. Zustand! Wahnsinn!
  609. ---------------------------------------
  610. (S) Disk Error Checker: Ueberprueft
  611. jeden einzelnen Sektor der Diskette auf
  612. moegliche Diskettenfehler.
  613. ---------------------------------------
  614. (T) Start&End Adress: Zeigt die Start-
  615. und Endadresse (sowohl hexa- wie auch
  616. dezimal) eines PRG und seine Laenge an.
  617. ---------------------------------------
  618. (U) Spin Disk Drive: Diese Option
  619. laesst die Floppy einfach nur rotieren.
  620. Ideal zur Floppyreinigung und Wartung.

  622. (V) Read a SEQ File: Affenschneller
  623. Textanzeiger fuer PET-ASCII SEQ Texte!

  626. (W) Divide a SEQ File: Diese Funktion
  627. teilt ein grosses sequentielles File
  628. in mehrere kleinere Teile auf.
