- 1st Menu - Option (A): Disk Directory
=======================================
This option will display the disks
header, id, operating system, whether
the write protect notch is covered,
number of blocks used, and the number
of blocks free. Then displayed for
each file is its number of blocks,
filename, and filetype.
You may pause the listing of the files
by pressing the [SPACE] bar. Press any
key to resume listing. You may abort
the listing by pressing the [A] key.
Error files [*] and protected files [<]
are noted after their filetype.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (B): Format Disk
=======================================
This option will prepare a new disk for
data storage or will erase a disk
containing unwanted information.
To do a "quick format," on a disk which
has already been formatted and contains
unwanted information, press [RETURN]
when asked for the disk ID. If this
type of format fails, use the regular
format and enter an ID.
Once formated all information will be
totaly lost!
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (C): Initialize
Disk Drive
=======================================
This option will position your disk
drives head at track 18 and will return
your disk drive to the same state as
when turned on.
Use this when your drive won't respond
correctly or when it seems to become
confused. If this still doesn't work
try turning your drive off then on
again.
Make sure you have a formated disk in
the drive when you use this option.
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (D): Rename File
=======================================
This option lets you choose a different
filename for any file.
You must know the original files name,
which you will type in when prompted.
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (E): Validate Disk
=======================================
This option will "sort" the files on
your disk to find unused space which is
then made avaliable. It also erases
files which have an [*] by their
filetype, error files.
You will be shown how many blocks free
were on the disk before and after you
validated and how many were gained.
There will not always be an increase.
Never try to scratch an [*] file,
always validate to get rid of it.
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (F): Scratch File
=======================================
This option erases a file or series of
files from your disk (See option
Unscratch).
You must know the name of the file you
wish to scratch.
There are many methods of scratching
files. To learn more about using the
scratch command refer to page 17 of
your Commodore 1541 Disk Drive User's
Guide.
Never try to scratch an [*] file,
validate instead.
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (G): Unscratch File
=======================================
This option will recover a scratched
file.
When the program locates a scratched
file it will ask if you want to
unscratch it. If not it will continue
searching. If so it will proceed to
unscratch. You then have to enter a
filetype to be given to the file.
Choose the filetype that it originaly
had, if you cannot remember take a
guess. It was most likely a Program or
Sequential file.
If the file you want to unscratch has
just been scratched and there has been
nothing written to the disk then there
should be no problem. But, if you have
saved files onto that disk after
scratching the file then I suggest
these steps.
1st: Copy the entire disk to another
disk, a backup.
2nd: Attempt to unscratch the file on
the original disk.
3rd: If successful then copy your newly
unscratched file to the backup disk. If
unsuccessful then you at least tried!
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (H): Error Status

To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (J): Copy File To
Another Disk
=======================================
This option allows you to make a copy
of a file onto another disk.
To use this option you must have the
disk that contains Disk Helper 5.0
ready. After choosing this option
insert this disk (Make sure it contains
the file "-dh copy 2.0") and press any
key. The copier will be loaded in
about 10 seconds.
Once loaded follow the prompts. Once
you have selected your options insert
the SOURCE disk (the disk that contains
the file you wish to copy) and press
[RETURN] when prompted. The file will
begin to read in, if their are no errors it will continue. Once loaded in you will be prompted to insert the DESTINATION disk (the disk you want the file to be copied to).
You may copy as many files as you like.
When you are finished copying insert
the Disk Helper 5.0 disk and press
[RETURN] when prompted. You will be
back at the Main Menu in about 30
seconds.
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
- 1st Menu - Option (K): Lock/Unlock

an entire disk from being written to,
including scratching files.
WARNING: The format command will still
erase the entire disk.
To abort press the [A] key when
prompted.
=======================================
