¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢ Breaking News¢¢ In an earlier issue, I described how¢ Tom Hunt was able to create a special¢ version of BBS Express PRO that he's¢ running in emulation on a PC to¢ create a telnet-able BBS (URL is on¢ the URL List, elsewhere in this¢ issue.) Now there are several other¢ important developments that are¢ bringing our Atari 8-bits closer to¢ the Internet, either as stand-alone¢ machines or through PCs running as¢ proxy-servers.¢¢ Steven Tucker has added a proxy¢ server to A.P.E. 98 (now in Beta.) ¢ To demonstrate how it works, he has¢ set up the second telnet-able Atari¢ BBS. This one runs the freeware BBS¢ Express (URL is also on that URL¢ List.)¢¢ In addition, significant progress has¢ been made in both Project Pheonix, an¢ attempt to create a Web browser for¢ our 8-bits, and Project ICE, which¢ promises to bring direct dial-up¢ Internet access to our 8-bits. I've¢ also heard, but not confirmed that¢ SMTP (sending e-mail messages)¢ through a proxy-server has been¢ accomplished.¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢¢
