¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢ MINUTES OF THE JULY 1996 MEETING¢¢ GENERAL MEETING:¢ ----------------¢¢ JACK GEDALIUS opened our JULY meeting¢ by thanking ALAN SHARKIS for having¢ the local members over to his house¢ for a demonstration tying ATARI with¢ IBM and the Internet. He gave us a¢ delicious lunch, a beautiful spread¢ and we all appeciate it. We thank¢ him very much for it. We had a¢ plaque made up in honor of ALEX¢ PIGNATO. Jack and RON FETZER worked¢ on it. The plaque was passed around.¢¢ REPORTS:¢¢ RON gave the treasury report as being¢ in the black. ¢¢ ALAN reported there is now a Web page¢ on the Internet which is bringing¢ back old issues of ANTIC Magazine. ¢ He promised support to members who¢ wish to access the Internet with¢ their 8-bits.¢¢ Another thing Alan stated is that at¢ present he has received only one¢ other newsletter from another group¢ and was wondering if any of them were¢ still going to Alex's address. These¢ newsletters help us out in writing¢ our own newsletter. Alex's family,¢ while promising to help us with club¢ activities, has not been able to do¢ so. HARRY TUTHILL indicated he would¢ talk with GAIL PIGNATO about club¢ equipment. ¢ Harry reports that doorprize discs¢ are made up. There are going to be¢ some lucky people!¢¢ JACK asked HAROLD PEGLER if there was¢ any new information on the library? ¢ Harold is going to start working on¢ another catalog disc with all the¢ latest additions; Disc #4.¢¢ JACK called for a vote on a new vice¢ president. A request was also made¢ for a report on correspondence.¢¢ JACK has some correspondence from E-¢ Mail, and he read just a few items¢ into the minutes:¢¢ From BEN POEHLAND on Internet - I am¢ stunned by the news of Alex's sudden¢ death. The man was practically an¢ institution. It was Alex who held¢ the club together. He stood with me¢ shoulder to shoulder when we had to¢ deal with those impossible people in¢ Ann Arbor. He stood like a rock ... ¢ and was someone I could rely on. ¢ With Alex's passing we have lost not¢ only one leader, our leader and¢ guiding light, but more important we¢ have lost an inspiration that Alex¢ provided to the group.¢¢ TOM ANDREWS - I am practically¢ speechless, this was so unexpected. ¢ The ATARI Committee has lost one of¢ its staunch enthusiars. I have lost¢ a good friend. I am going to miss¢ him. May he be where 8-bits are¢ plentiful and hardware never fails.¢¢ And we got the same thing from the¢ NEW NEST BBS, and from LYLE L on the¢ NEWNEST and from TOM HUNT on¢ INTERNET, from W. BURGER of ABBUC,¢ from CURTIS VENDEL on FIDONET, from¢ DAVE KUTLER from England, from DANE¢ STEGMAN, from JOHN MORDOSKY and they¢ all say basically the same thing.¢¢ The Secretary got some correspondence¢ as follows:¢¢ GARDEN CITY ACE and VICTORIA CANADA -¢ condolences for Alex. They also¢ tell who wrote this SUB ATTACK type¢ program that we modified from the¢ original. And I answered and thanked¢ them for the information and their¢ condolences. We got a letter in¢ response to a letter sent to JEAN¢ BROKAW of PACE SETTER saying that we¢ will continue being as close as we¢ always were. They sent us a note¢ saying I hope this will not change¢ anything. I sent a letter to LARRY¢ TISCHBEIN who wanted information. I¢ sent a condolence letter to SYLVIA¢ SMINKEY, and I sent a condolence¢ letter on behalf of the club, and we¢ got these thank you's from the¢ PIGNATO family for the flowers we¢ sent at the funeral.¢¢ Someone mentioned there are people on¢ FIDONET who have urged that the¢ Dragon Lord Game, they would like to¢ know where it's available. I said we¢ would contact the author. RON will¢ write to the author.¢¢ A call was made by the President for¢ the election of a new Vice President.¢ JIM HARRIS and JOSEF LEBER were¢ nominated and JOSEF LEBER was¢ elected. JACK mentoned that we have¢ to change the newsletter disc to¢ reflect those changes.¢¢ POTPOURRI:¢ ----------¢¢ AL MANNELLA asked about a data base¢ for his coin collection. Fortunately¢ JOHN HARDIE had donated surplus¢ hardware and software for the club¢ members. One of the programs was¢ Home Filing manager which solved Al's¢ problem. Also, JACK GEDALIUS¢ subsequently demonstrated the program¢ for Al's benefit.¢¢ ITEM:¢¢ JACK suggested it would be nice for¢ an activity of the club to have a¢ weekend away with our wives to a¢ country resort -- something a little¢ different. RON FETZER suggested a¢ vote next year on this proposal. JACK¢ offered a suggestion that we could¢ start our meeting at 1 PM instead of¢ 11:30 AM. Discusson followed and the¢ decision was to meet again on¢ September 21 at the same time as¢ usual. JACK notes that day is the¢ first day of Fall.¢¢ ATARI EXPERIENCE:¢ -----------------¢¢ Alan Shaarkis related that he saw a¢ preview of the latest emulator called¢ RAINBOW made by the same guy that¢ made an emulator which runs on the¢ McIntosh, however this is RAINBOW 95¢ and runs under Windows 95. The¢ preview version runs with a small¢ window on the desk top. The author¢ has promised other things in a¢ version-to-come. So far, it's the¢ nicest thing Alan has ever seen in¢ terms of what the screen looks like. ¢ It has no sound, it cannot load any¢ more than 16K under the operating¢ system. That will change as time¢ goes on, but it will accept ROM¢ images of the operating systems of an¢ 800, an 800XL and eventually of a¢ 130XE; and if you happen to have the¢ ROM image, it will also emulate a¢ 5200 game machine. The 5200 has very¢ similar instructons to an 800¢ computer. Alan will watch its¢ progress because he's writing an¢ article for LIAUG on emulation.¢¢ DEMONSTRATIONS:¢ ---------------¢¢ JACK GEDALIUS' daughter, Rebecca,¢ demonstrated ONE ON ONE, a basketball¢ game from ELECTRONIC ARTS with¢ impressive graphics. She did a very¢ commendable job.¢¢ JACK GEDALIUS gave a demonstration of¢ HOME FILING MANAGER, an ATARI program¢ which will be very useful for AL¢ MANNELLA.¢¢ RON FETZER demonstrated a disc from a¢ German Club called ABBUC a Newsletter¢ disc #45. This is info from the¢ club, notices, XP80 info, they have¢ new PD material, new demos in¢ Germany, regional news, and news from¢ ABBUC. ABBUC has a mailbox, and a¢ page on the Internet with test¢ results of hard and software. There¢ is a small game on the disk they sent¢ us called Whirlwind which he¢ demonstrated. Everyone agreed it was¢ an excellent game. The birds looked¢ very lifelike and it was great fun.¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢
