******************¢ PRESIDENTS MESSAGE¢ by ALEX PIGNATO¢¢ The "CLASSIC 8 BIT" magazine¢ campaign is over, and has been¢ tabulated, indicating 600 plus¢ returns. This, from our inside¢ source, (our member BEN POEHLAND,)¢ who says its a definite success,¢ with names still coming in. The¢ process of final negotiations with¢ UNICORN PUBLICATION, took place in¢ JULY. The target date for the first¢ issue is set at this time for¢ December 1992. The magazine is¢ expected to be printed 6 times per¢ year, with a disk, 3 times a year. ¢¢ I'm proud to announce that the¢ members of OL' HACKERS, have¢ VOLUNTEERED UNANIMOUSLY, to do the¢ packaging and mailing out of the 3¢ seperate disk issues for the first¢ year of publication, in order to¢ help get the CLASSIC 8 BIT mag off¢ and flying. That relates to over 600¢ disks to be labeled, stamped¢ packaged and mailed, quite a hefty¢ job. Yes, thats right, a whole club¢ UNANIMOUSLY agreed to do this BIG¢ chore 3 times a year as a LABOR OF¢ LOVE for our 8 BIT micros. Thats¢ real devotion, but then the OL'¢ HACKERS have always done their¢ utmost to have people stay with the¢ 8 BIT, thats why our membership¢ keeps growing while other clubs¢ memberships are dwindiling.¢¢ It is our belief that this was¢ and is our last chance at having a¢ magazine devoted entirely to the 8¢ BIT, so be sure that when the time¢ comes you follow through and send in¢ your subscription dollars without¢ delay. We need each and every 8 BIT¢ owner who wants to keep his micro¢ viable to follow through! This is a¢ time for ACTION. We raised enough¢ hell, and complaints because we were¢ being ignored or worse commited to¢ the dung heap, well now the 8 BIT¢ community took things in hand and¢ are correcting that.¢ So stay tuned and we will try to¢ keep you informed.¢¢¢ While we will all benefit from¢ this effort, let us not forget those¢ most responsible. I refer of course¢ to JEFF WcWILLIAMS, and our own BEN¢ POEHLAND (the ALCHEMIST), and the¢ rest of the far flung committee. Recently¢ my friend and New JERSEY OL' HACKER¢ and J.A.C.G. librarian,SAM CORY,¢ sent me a batch of new disks, while¢ at the same time, our ENGLISH¢ members JIM CUTLER, and DAVE EWENS,¢ and other friends sent me disks.¢ Lest it be said that 8 BIT material¢ has disappeared, I quote MARK TWAIN,¢ (I believe) who said "The report of¢ my demise are greatly exaggerated,"¢ (or something like that.) I am¢ swamped and appreciative of the¢ wealth of material coming to the OL'¢ HACKERS and I will keep demo'ing and¢ putting them into our ever growing¢ library, which is over 300 double¢ sided disks, I am told, as soon as¢ possible. Thanks to all our far¢ flung members and non-member¢ friends, for their constant help,¢ and generosity. ¢ ¢ Thats it for now- keep in¢ touch!
