You will also need the¢ following:¢¢ An RS232 connection -an 810, MIO, or¢ Blackbox etc. I use the DATATARI¢ Rverter(SIO to RS232 cable> plugged¢ into my 1050 serial socket. The 25 pin¢ D-plug RS232 connects to your MODEM. I¢ also use a US ROBOTICS modem set to¢ 9600bps BITS PER SECOND (aka as BAUD),¢ my Terminal software is BOBTERM (from¢ OHAUG PD LIBRARY) ¢¢ WHATS NEXT?¢¢ Connect MODEM to power and to phone¢ line, on BOBTERM screen type "AT", you¢ should then see "OK" letting you know¢ all is well.¢¢ THE NET¢ ********¢ You need a provider- Either¢ AOL,GENIE,DELPHI.THE WELL etc and once¢ signed up your software BOBTERM dials¢ in to the net.¢¢ WHAT YOU CAN ACCESS:¢¢ E-MAIL Your own private electronic¢ mailbox. FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF¢ LIGHT and cheaper.¢ TELNET A direct link in to a¢ board.example:¢¢ I log in to my provider CIX ,go¢ internet,which brings up an IP>prompt.¢ I tap in "TELNET WELL.COM" and I am¢ on THE WELL in San Francisco. COST is,¢ phonetime from my computer to CIX in¢ LONDON, plus any charges the WELL¢ makes. NOT CHARGED is PHONETIME¢ LONDON/SANFRANCISCO.¢¢ IRC-¢¢ This one is INTERNATIONAL RELAY CHAT a¢ sort of addictive CB radio thing¢¢ GOPHER and ARCHIE- Ultra quick NET¢ search tools.¢¢ FTP FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL¢¢ A universal system to download from a¢ distant computer.ONLY SNAG I HIT WAS¢ TO DOWNLOAD .ZIP files, a sort of ARC¢ file but thats mainly due to the¢ memory limit of my computer.¢¢ WWW ¢ The WorldWideWeb. Atari users can¢ access Web pages if their provider has¢ a web browser called LYNX it's text¢ only so you can't get those naughty¢ obscene porno pics so beloved by¢ Senate/Congress!
