OCR: Paris, 1399 Dear Reader: Welcome to my web site on the Plague. I was but a child when this terrible Pestilence made its first deadly march across our lands. Those who were born since then surely cannot grasp the devastation it brought. The Death took from us many great scholars and leaders, crippling the progress of learning and loosing disorder in our lands. Countless victims were laid in mass graves, or left where they fell, alone and unconfessed, with no family to carry their names or pray for their souls. I myself saw herds of sheep and cows straying through unharvested fields, as not enough people remained to tend to either beasts or crops. God saw fit to spare me, but my father perished, and I inherited his estate at a far younger age than nature intended. For this reason, I have dedicated my life and wealth to the study of medicine and wish to pass along my knowledge to you. Hogez Souleane Rogier d'Orleans, Doctor of Physic University of Paris 1399
