Release Notes for Kodak Digital Science (tm) Photo Insert software v1.1 Including
Support for Windows 95
WINDOWS SYSTEMS
Windows NT
Kodak Photo Insert software v1.1 for Windows 95 will not run on Windows NT.
Memory
The minimum amount of RAM needed to run Photo Insert software is 8 MB. For best
results, close applications that you are not using and minimize background applications.
If you attempt to run the Photo Insert software installer with a very low amount of free
disk space (< 100k), you may see a message that tells you to contact technical support.
This is a Microsoft system message. Free up more disk space and try again before you call
Microsoft.
Windows 95 Issues
Allow Windows 95 to manage virtual memory.
Photo Insert software will not run if less than 4 MB of disk space is available on the drive
that Windows 95 is using for virtual memory.
When using Microsoft Publisher 95 V3.0, rotation of the Photo Insert image is not supported.
If a rotation of the frame is done unpredictable printing will occur. Rotation of images
within the Photo Insert paste into dialogue window functions correctly.
You should restart your system periodically to clear the available memory.
Occasionally you may find that the Guide Help search links to the wrong text. This means
that the KPIGuidehlp.gid file or KPI95.GID is corrupted. Delete the KPIGuidehlp.gid file
and KPI95.GID files to force the Windows 95 help engine to recreate its index for these
files. These are hidden files.
To delete these files:
1. From Explorer, navigate to the Photo Insert directory.
2. Select View -> Options -> and select the "show all files" button.
3. Drag the KPIGuidehlp.gid file or KPI95.GID file(s) to the Wastebasket.
4. Restart Photo Insert software and open Help recreates these files.
Uninstalling Photo Insert software
When you remove Photo Insert software from your system, everything in the Photo Insert
software directory is deleted. If you have custom work that you want to save, move it out
of the Photo Insert software directory into another directory before you uninstall Photo
Insert software.
Kodak Precision Color Management System Software
If you installed an application such as Adobe Photoshop on your system, then components
of Kodak Precision Color Management System software (KPCMS) are probably also installed.
Photo Insert software also installs KPCMS.
During the Photo Insert software uninstall process, you may see a prompt that states that
removing KPCMS may affect the function of other programs dependent upon it (like Photoshop).
If you have Photoshop (or any other programs dependent on KPCMS) and you select Yes in this
prompt (thereby removing KPCMS), you must reinstall Photoshop to use Color Management. If
you are in doubt, do not remove Color Management.
Printing Issues
Canon Printers
When using the Canon printer driver for Windows 95, set Image Color Matching, Setup Analyze,
and Color Analyze to "On."
Epson Stylus Color II Printer
For best results when printing 360 dpi resolution from WordPerfect to an Epson Stylus
Color Printer, select "Medium" print quality in Print Setup.
Green Prints
An inadequate amount of memory available at print time may cause printed output to appear
green. If this happens, save your document and restart your system. Documents should
print normally.
Picture Is Not Printed
After you paste a picture into a template and print the document, occasionally the template
icon may be printed instead of the image, even though the image appears on the screen. If
this happens, repaste the image and print the document again.
Six-color Prints
When you use Publisher, you may occasionally get poor quality (six-color) prints. If you
created and saved your document with a different default printer assigned than the one you
are currently using, you may have to recreate your document.
Drive Cannot See Photo CD for High-resolution Prints
If during printing an error message appears that states "Please insert Photo CD xxxxxxxxxxxx
and click OK to print a high quality image. Click Cancel to print a draft quality image
instead." and you know that the Photo CD with the id xxxxxxxxxxxx is already in the drive,
try double-clicking on the image and repasting the image from the Photo CD, then print it.
