  4. Introduction:
  5.  
  6. In order to reduce a program which normally excedes 300Mbyte in size to 
  7. something small enough to fit on a cover disk, we have had to remove the 
  8. majority of the original 2000+ 3D models. There are now approx. 250 3D models 
  9. covering the entire range of the toolbar. You will find the only the first
  10. model from the object toolbars is available.
  11.  
  12. If using 16 bit colour, some of the models eg plants, will appear as grey boxes.
  13. Reduce the colour to 256 colour for the full range of available images.
  14.  
  15. In order for you to appreciate the exceptional graphics, we have left the 
  16. materials/textures list intact. These textures may be used on any of the 
  17. available models/rooms.
  18.  
  19. We at FastTrak hope that this greatly reduced demonstration gives you an adequate
  20. feel for the capabilities of the full version.
  21.  
  22. INTERNET CONNECTION
  23.  
  24. Whilst the full version of this product does not require you to have a network 
  25. connection, but some features are greatly enhanced if your computer is 
  26. wired to the net.  With the full version, FastTrak Software and CompuServe, 
  27. offer you a free copy of Netscape Navigator Software, version 2.0.1.

  30. PERFORMANCE
  31. To obtain best performance, Visual Home should be run on a Windows 95
  32. machine with 256 colors and at least 16Mb of RAM. More RAM will speed
  33. up the program better than anything else.

  35. INSTALLATION
  36.  
  37. 1. Insert disc into your CD-ROM drive and wait for the Autoplay window to 
  38.    appear.
  39. 2. Click the button labeled "Install Visual Home" and follow the 
  40.    instructions.
  41.  
  42. TYPES OF INSTALLATION
  43.  
  44. You will be given a choice of two ways to install the product:
  45. Normal and minimal.
  46.  
  47. 1. Minimal installation: (Not recommended for the Demo) No MMX support
  48.     
  49. 2. Normal installation: Copies the executable and some files required to run
  50.    the executable. Takes up more space than minimal installation, but runs more
  51.    quickly than minimal.  
  52.  
  53.  
  54. The installer will create directories on your hard drive and install the
  55. files it needs to run this program.  Unless you tell it otherwise, it will
  56. create a "FastTrak" directory and a VH subdirectory on your  C: drive. 
  57. You can change the drive and directory by choosing a different location.  
  58.  
  59. The installer will also create a Visual Home icon under your Windows Start Menu.  
  60. The default Program Group is FastTrak, but you will be given the option to select 
  61. a different group.

  64. HOW TO RUN THE VISUAL HOME DEMO
  65.  
  66. - Click the Visual Home icon in the FastTrak Program Group underthe Start menu.

  68. If you try to run this application without the CD in your drive and an
  69. error message appears:

  71. - Insert the Visual Home CD.
  72. - Wait 3 seconds.
  73. - Select "Retry" from the error message box.

  75. UNINSTALLING VISUAL HOME

  78. Choose "Visual Home Deluxe" from the "Add/Remove Program" applet from your 
  79. Control Panel.  
  80. You can bring up the "Control Panel" by clicking the "Start" menu and choosing 
  81. "Settings".

  83. DELETING YOUR OWN SAMPLE FILES
  84.  
  85. You may want to delete some of the Sample Files you've added to the Sample list.
  86. To do this, find the file called personal.3tl in the directory FastTrak\vh\template 
  87. on your hard disk. Open it with a text editor, like WordPad, Write or any word 
  88. processor. Notice that each line begins with the Tab name, "My Samples", followed 
  89. by the name you gave each file. Just delete the line for each file you want 
  90. to remove.

  92. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  93.  
  94. - 486DX/66 or higher IBM PC or compatible
  95. - Windows 95
  96. - 8MB RAM (16 recommended), 
  97. - 12 MB free hard disk space for the partial installation option
  98. - VGA graphics (256 colors or higher)
  99. - CD-ROM Drive (double-speed or higher recommended)
  100. - Sound card recommended

  102. We strongly recommend that you use 256 (8 bit) colour.  The program will run
  103. faster,  use less memory, and will probably look better than if you run it in
  104. 16 or 24 bit colour. (Some items will not show on the demo when using 16/24 bit
  105. colour).

  107. In general the more physical memory (RAM) you have, the better Visual Home 
  108. will perform. There is a big difference between 8 Megs and 16 Megs. 
  109.  
  110. The faster the CPU you have, the faster your program will run, especially in
  111. 3D View.  Clock doubled chips won't improve performance as much as a chip
  112. with a faster clock rate.  For example a clock doubled 50 MHz runs externally
  113. at 25 MHz and may be slower than a 33 MHz CPU.
  114.  
  115. For the best 3D performance and look, run in 256 colors (8-bits) with a PCI
  116. or VESA Local Bus (VLB) video card.
