  5. Thankyou for trying out the Koan Pro demo version.  We hope you enjoy it!!

  8. How do I install SSEYO Koan Pro Demo?
  9. =============================================================================
  10. If you have the disk version simply run the SETUP.EXE program from 
  11. the disk.
  12.  
  13. If you have the .EXE (self extracting ZIP) version do the following:
  14.  
  15. 1)  Create a temporary directory
  16.  
  17. 2)  Copy the .EXE file to this directory (the .EXE file will
  18.     be called KPRD1216.EXE or KPRD1232.EXE)
  19.  
  20. 3)  Run the self extracting KPRD1216.EXE or KPRD1232.EXE file. This
  21.     unzips the files into your temporary directory
  22.  
  23. 4)  Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE to setup the application and copy 
  24.     the files to the correct directories.  It will also create a new 
  25.     program group and add icons for KPRODEMO.EXE (16 bit) or  
  26.     KPROD32.EXE (32 bit) and KPRODEMO.HLP
  27.  
  28. 5)  Now read the software license.  By using SSEYO Koan Pro V1.2 Demo 
  29.     you agree to be bound by the terms of its software license 
  30.     agreement (LICEKPRD.TXT)installed with the software (also found in 
  31.     the KPRODEMO.HLP file - search for License).

  34. =============================================================================
  35. Additions over V1.1
  36. =============================================================================
  37. * New Koan ADSR controller parameters - See online help!
  38.    Allows you to mimic ADSR (Attack/Decay/Sustain/Release) on soundcards
  39.    that do not have these facilities (great for ambient type music) and
  40.    that have support for continuous voulme controllers (i.e. not OPL2/OPL3
  41.    chipset based cards).
  42.  
  43. * Now available in 16 bit and 32 bit versions!
  44.  
  45. * New compressed Koan file sizes:
  46.    This version of SSEYO Koan Pro V1.2 has a new SSEYO Koan Music
  47.    Engine (SKME) which plays the new compressed Koan files (up to one tenth
  48.    the size of previous files).  It also plays earlier file types.
  49.  
  50. * AWE32 and Gravis Dialogs in Piece View 3
  51.  
  52. * New menu item File Connect to the SSEYO Web Page and new addition to
  53.   the Options Setup Options dialog, Define Web Browser
  54.  
  55.    These allow you to connect directly to the SSEYO Web page if you
  56.    have a modem and dialup service provider and you have a WWW Browser 
  57.    set up and configured on your PC.  Note that once you are connected,
  58.    you will need to close Koan Pro before you download any SKD files
  59.    that may be on the WWW.

  61. * 32 bit version has true multithreading
  62.  
  63. * Fixes and continuous refinement

  66. 16 bit/32 bit versions
  67. =============================================================================
  68. Koan Pro demo is now available in 16 bit and 32 bit versions. You may 
  69. use one of these, whichever is best suited to your system.  
  70.  
  71. The 32 bit versions of Koan Pro now supports a
  72. multi-threaded composer, which can be enabled through the Setup Dialog
  73. (View Setup off the menu). This option enables Koan to keep on
  74. composing, even when the graphical user interface is fully engaged by
  75. the user. Previously, if the user interface were stopped while waiting
  76. for user input, the music could stop being played after the Composer
  77. Reaction time (View Setup) had elapsed.  If you enable the
  78. multi-threading option, and later experience problems with
  79. multi-threaded operation, you may of course disable (and later
  80. re-enable) this option through the Setup Dialog.

  82. The most likely problem with multithreading is that you might
  83. experience some lack of smoothness in the played music, when you have
  84. a small amount of physical memory available (e.g. less than 16
  85. Megabytes of base physical memory, and / or many applications loaded).
  86. If this is the case, simply disable the multithreading option.
  87.  
  88. The 32 bit version is designed for use with either Windows 95 
  89. or Windows NT 3.51, or later.

  93. World Wide Web
  94. =============================================================================
  95. Don't forget you can use SSEYO Koan Web V1.0 or SSEYO Koan Plugin V1.0
  96. for Netscape V2.0 to play back Koan pieces. Koan Web is also suitable
  97. for use as as helper applications for WWW browsers such as Navigator(TM),
  98. Internet Explorer or Mosaic(TM). Create your own pieces with SSEYO 
  99. Koan Pro for use on the web. See our web page for more details 
  100. (http://www.sseyo.com).

  104. FEATURES NOTES
  105. =============================================================================
  106. * Patch Change Bars parameter - if you use this you can sometimes get
  107.   patches not changing cleanly.  This is not a bug, but is due to
  108.   how patch changing works.  The faster your machine the cleaner the
  109.   change will be, as this parameter makes use of low priority timers.
  110.  
  111. * Importing of patterns:  This version only allows the importing of
  112.   one pattern to a pattern group.
  113.

  115. DEMOS AND TEMPLATES
  116. =============================================================================
  117. * When you first install SSEYO Koan Pro there will not see any 
  118.   templates when you create a new piece.  You will need to select 
  119.   the templates you wish to see by selecting File, Create Template 
  120.   List from the menu.
  121.  
  122. * Should your demo version not include the DYNAMO SoundFont bank
  123.   (DYNAMO.SBK) you can download this and other demo files from our 
  124.   Website or our CompuServe forum section.

  127. CREATIVE LABS AWE32
  128. =============================================================================
  129. * AWE32 Pitch Intial (View 12) is active when between -8192 an +8191
  130.   The Off value is -8193.  If you set it to a very high or low value
  131.   (e.g. -8192) it is possible you will not be able to hear the voice
  132.   play at all as it will be out of audible range.
  133.  
  134. * If you have the 32-bit version of one of the SSEYO Koan products,
  135.   and you use a Creative Labs AWE32 card and wish to use SoundFont banks
  136.   from within Koan ... then the standard Creative Labs file AWEMAN32.DLL
  137.   must exist somewhere in your system path. Note that this was not the
  138.   case with very early Windows 95 AWE32 drivers from Creative Labs.
  139.   If this file is not present on your machine, then contact Creative
  140.   Labs for the latest driver pack (http://www.creaf.com).

  143. GRAVIS ULTRASOUND (and possibly other patch caching cards):

  145. * Modulation controller has no effect on MIDI line 10.  We have had to 
  146.   disable this controller to avoid problems inherent in the Ultrasound
  147.   drivers.

  149. * Reverb and Chorus are not supported by the Gravis card.

  169. Brian Eno's "Generative Music 1", a SSEYO Koan music title

  172. SSEYO has just released this major SSEYO Koan music title, created by Brian
  173. Eno with SSEYO Koan Pro. 
  174.  
  175. "The works I have made with Koan symbolise the beginning of a new era of 
  176. music.  There are now three musical alternatives: live music, recorded music 
  177. and generative music.  Generative music enjoys some of the benefits of both 
  178. its ancestors. Like live music it is always different. Like recorded music it 
  179. is free of time-and-place limitations - you can hear it when and where you
  180. want. I really think it is possible that our grandchildren will look at us in
  181. wonder and say: 'you mean you used to listen to exactly the same thing over

  184. Brian Eno is the 1996 BRITs Producer of the Year for Outside by David Bowie, 
  185. and pioneer of ambient music. Brian Eno's Generative Music 1 was produced
  186. with SSEYO Koan Pro.

  189. versions) on floppy disk.  Requires Creative Labs SB32/AWE32 soundcard.
