This short interactive clip from the Haight-Ashbury in the Sixties! CD-ROM (published by Rockument, Inc., and distributed by Compton's NewMedia) is for promotional purposes only. This help message explains how to use the clip, and also provides an overview of the title.
By now you should be familiar with the buttons that appear when you roll the mouse (no need to click) around the sides of the screen. To activate any button, roll over the area to make it appear, then click. The buttons are:
Quit -- Lower right. Leave this interactive clip.
Triangle -- Bottom. Go to Turn On, Tune In, and
Drop Out menu, which takes you to different
parts of this short clip.
Help -- Lower left. Display Help window.
Credits -- Upper left. Display Credits window.
Left-hand [Reverse] -- Left side. Back to the
previous scene.
Right-hand [Forward] -- Right side. Forward to the
next scene.
To close this help window on a Macintosh, click the close box in the upper left corner. To close this help window in Windows, use the Close (Alt+F4) command in the Control Menu in the upper left corner.
The Credit window, activated by clicking the Credit button in the upper left corner of the screen, works the same way.The Credits window contains credit and copyright information about the pictures and sounds in the scene.
CD-ROM Summary
The CD-ROM title offers three choices in its main menu:
TURN ON
-- An interactive rockumentary about the history of the Haight-Ashbury, by San Francisco Oracle editor Allen Cohen, with an introduction by Raechel Donahue, one of the first FM rock DJs. It contains 150 scenes organized by date. (You can play these scenes in different sequences in the TUNE IN section.)
TUNE IN
-- The reference section, for playing the elements of the title in a random fashion. This includes video interviews, music videos, Oracle articles and poetry, Oracle artwork, and other options, such as Topics, which lets you select different scenes to play, and Roll Your Own Show, which lets you present the scenes of TURN ON in any order.
DROP OUT
-- The groovy game, which can be played by up to six players. The goal is to find enlightenment. You do this by gathering points in four attributes (represented on the game board by four concentric rings). These attributes are Food & Shelter, Hipness, Spirituality, and Love.
