Use this page to check and adjust the printing position and alignment of your printer.
First ensure that your printer is correctly set up using the Windows Control Panel.
Print out page 1 of this file
The crop marks on this page are positioned at the corners of the column guides, as set up on the Column Guides dialog (Page menu)
. When printed out correctly, their position on the page should match the values on that dialog.
The crop mark positions should be:
Top left crop mark = 2.5cm
from top, 2cm
from left.
Top right crop mark = 2.5cm
from top, 2cm
from right.
Bottom left crop mark = 2cm
from bottom, 2cm
from left
Bottom right crop mark = 2cm
from bottom, 2cm
from right.
Using a ruler, measure the position of the top left crop mark on your printed page. If its position is not what it should be, calculate the difference between the actual and correct position and enter these values in the horizontal and vertical adjustment fields on the Page Setup dialog (P
age menu). For example if the top left crop mark has printed out 2.8cm
from the top, and
.2cm
from the left, you would have to enter a vertical adjustment
of 0.3cm
up, and a horizontal adjustment of 0.2cm
left.
Print out page 1 again, and this time all of the crop marks should be printed out in their correct positi
You should
save these settings as part of the template that you use most often, so that you do not have to reset them every time
you create a new document.
Notes:
Most printers
cannot
print right to the edge of the paper.
The white margin between the shaded
areas and the edge of this printed
page indicates the non-printing area of your printer. This should
approximately match the printer margin denoted by the blue
dotted line on your Pressworks page.
You should
adjust the printing position for a document that you intend to print to disk for a
typesetting bureau. Both
adjustments should be set to zero.
When you create a document without loading a template, the adjustments used for the previous
document are used until you specify otherwise using the Page Setup dialog.
This document was designed for A4 paper; when using other paper sizes, e.g. 8.5 x 11.0 inch
fanfold, you must create a document designed around the same principles.

you need to print text with expanded or compressed widths, we suggest turning 'Print
TrueType as graphics' on, if your printer driver supports this option.
The text in this frame is 50% of its normal width. These words will overlap if this feature is not supported by your printer driver.
The text in this frame is 150% of its normal width. These words will be spaced apart if this feature is not supported by your printer driver
Some printer drivers can also print transparent fill patterns in
correctly. The graphics objects in the frames below will
determine if you have this particular printer driver limitation.

Use this page to test the capabilities of your printer and printer driver.
If some of the features on this page are printed incorrectly,
try altering some of the settings available to your
printer driver in the Windows Control Panel.
If this is still unsuccessful, try contacting your printer manufacturer
or Microsoft for a more up to date printer driver.
Some printer drivers can incorrectly print text that should be hidden by an opaque frame. The frames below will
determine if you have this particular printer driver limitation.
If your printout suffers from this problem
you need to hide text under
an opaque frame, we suggest turning 'Print TrueType as graphics' on, if your printer driver supports this option.
Notes
Turning 'Print TrueType as graphics' on, will increase the printing time, so you should only choose this method if you actually need to.
