Congratulations on your choice of ZIP OS/2, the premier program for data
compression, encryption and archiving!
ZIP OS/2 is an advanced data compression program for IBM-compatible
systems running IBM's OS/2 Operating System. ZIP OS/2 is compatible
across many computer platforms, allowing you to transfer zipped files
from one computer to another.
While powerful, ZIP OS/2 is easy to use. You can customize ZIP OS/2's
settings with a variety of options. For example: use a faster
compression method for speedier operations, use a higher compression
ratio to save the most disk space, or use passwords to prevent
unauthorized access to your most sensitive files.
ZIP OS/2 is a program for compressing data files. Compressed files take
up less disk space. Compressed files are stored in a single Zip Archive.
You could think of a Zip Archive file as an envelope for files. When a
file is compressed, a copy of the file is placed into the Zip Archive.
Putting files in a Zip Archive makes your file lists less confusing.
Many files can be included in one Zip Archive.
ZIP OS/2 can compress both text documents and/or graphical images with
equal ease. Zip Archive files can be stored on your hard drive or any
type of removable media. Using ZIP OS/2 to compress a file is called
"zipping" a file. A zipped file contains several things. Most
importantly, it contains the original data from your file. This is
usually compressed (although you can choose no compression). Also
included are the file's date and time shown in its original directory,
the compressed and uncompressed file sizes, and the CRC value. An
optional comment can be stored. System-specific information is also
stored. This system-specific information causes no problems in cross
platform decompression.
ZIP OS/2 can also extract, or decompress, files. You must extract a file
to edit it again or to output it. Extracting a file is called
"unzipping" a file.
Use the ZIP command to compress your data into .ZIP archives and the
UNZIP command to subsequently decompress it. A short description of
these two commands follows, please consult the ZIP OS/2 documentation
for additional information.
**************
***** ZIP *****
**************
Usage: ZIP [options] ZIPfile [@listfiles...] [files...]
ZIP -@listfile ZIPfile [files...]
ZIPfile ZIPfile name. The default extension is .ZIP.
listfile A text file containing filespecs, 1 filespec per line.
This is an options summary - please consult the ZIP OS/2 documentation for
additional information.
1. Choose the type of file processing from one of:
-a[+] add files [reset archive attributes]
-d delete files from ZIPfile
-f freshen files - ensures files in ZIPfile are up to date
-i[-] add files with archive attribute set [don't reset attribute]
-l display license agreement only
-m move files into ZIPfile
-u update files - freshens and adds files not in ZIPfile
-v[c|t|h|m] view ZIPfile [comments|technical|HPFS names|more],
[d|n|p|s|r] [sort by [date|name|percentage|size|reverse order]
-w[H|S] select files with attributes [Hidden | System]
2. Choose the files to be processed with:
files... names of files to use. Wildcards are '*' and '?'.
@<list> use files from listfile
-r recurse through sub-directories
-p store paths of files
-ta<DATE> use files dated ON or AFTER <DATE> (specified as 'mmddyy')
-tb<DATE> use files dated BEFORE <DATE>
-x<files> eXclude files
-x@<list> eXclude using listfile
3. Choose other options if required:
-@<list> create listfile
-c add/edit file comments
-e[x,n,f,s,0] compression type: maXimum,Normal,Fast,Superfast,none(store)
-E don't store OS/2 Extended Attributes
-R Store REXX command file EAs (not stored by default)
-k keep original date of ZIPfile
-s<pword> scramble (encrypt) files using PASSWORD
-z add ZIPfile comment
4. Use of ZIP environment variable
Use "SET ZIP=options" to set up default options for ZIP processing.
For example. If you always wish to view ZIP archives with the HPFS names
and a paged display (more) use: "Set ZIP=-vhm". The command: "ZIP myzip"
would then view the archive contents.
When you are using an option such as "-v" in the environment variable it can
be overridden by using one of the other file processing options in the command
line. With the above environment setting the command "ZIP -a myzip" would
allow you to add files.
This is an options summary - please consult the ZIP OS/2 documentation for
additional information.

***** UNZIP *****
****************
Usage: UNZIP [options] ZIPfile [@listfiles...] [files...]
ZIPfile ZIPfile name. The default extension is .ZIP.
listfile A text file containing filespecs, 1 filespec per line.
This is an options summary - please consult the ZIP OS/2 documentation for
additional information.
1. Choose the type of file processing from one of:
-c extract files from ZIPfile to console
-e extract files from ZIPfile (default)
-f extract only newer existing files
-l display license agreement only
-n extract newer files and files that didn't exist
-t test ZIPfile integrity
(files are extracted but not written)
-v[c|t|h|m] view ZIPfile [comments|technical|HPFS names|more],
[d|n|p|s|r] [sort by [date|name|percentage|size|reverse order]
-@<list> create listfile of files selected from ZIPfile
2. Choose the files to be processed with:
files... names of files to use. Wildcards are '*' and '?'.
-x<files> eXclude files
-x@<list> eXclude using listfile
3. Choose other options if required:
-d restore directory structure
-D<DIR> destination directory (creates DIR if required)
-E don't restore Extended Attributes
-H don't UNZIP to HPFS filenames
-o overwrite existing files (no prompt issued)
-s<pword> unScramble files using PASSWORD
4. Use of UNZIP environment variable
Use "SET UNZIP=options" to set up default options for UNZIP processing.
For example. If you always wish to view ZIP archives with the HPFS names
and a paged display (more) use: "Set UNZIP=-vhm". The command: "UNZIP
myzip" would then view the archive contents.
When you are using an option such as "-v" in the environment variable it can
be overridden by using one of the other file processing options in the command
line. With the above environment setting the command "UNZIP -t myzip"
would allow you to test files.
This is an options summary - please consult the ZIP OS/2 documentation for
additional information.
