Our Old American West Special
by Dave Moorman
LOADSTAR has eagerly supported the
work of People of Liberty in bridging
the PAL and NTSC gap in Commodore
computing. We are relaying Scene World
to the LOADSTARites on a regular
basis. And now we want to return the
favor to Scene World.
So we put together this Special
Issue. It is one side of a 1541
(one-fourth of our regular magazine),
and takes a look at the Old American
West with four programs.
For those who know the Old West
only through the movies of John Wayne
and young Clint Eastwood, I need to
warn you -- those days are over.
Really! I live in eastern Colorado on
the Great American Prairie. And these
days, "discouraging words" are often
heard as agri-business funnels down
into the hands of a few giant
corporations.
We still have ranching and horses.
People wear cowboy hats to the bar,
but no six-guns. I live only 30 miles
from McDonalds and the rest of the
Commercial Consumer Civilization. We
have satellite television, microwaves,
computers and DSL. Our little cafe
serves the [best] chicken fried steak
(aka schnitzel?) in the world. At
Porky's Parlor, you can get deep-fried
anything. And across the highway at
the convenience store, they sell fried
chicken, corn dogs, and pizza.
About the only thing we don't have
out here, 250 miles from the big city,
is traffic.
Be that as it may, this mini-issue
[is] about the Old West, and we have
two unique games to challenge you, and
two modern side-lights for your
amusement.
Of course, our top secret, hidden
agenda is for you to get hooked on the
enjoyment of LOADSTAR and check out
the next article: Getting LOADSTAR.
Also don't miss The LOADSTAR Story.
But mostly, have fun.
