WinJammer Version 2.00
For Microsoft Windows 3.0
(C) Dan McKee, 1991
Welcome to the What's New file for WinJammer version 2.00. The most visible
change that has been made is to the name: WinJammer is the new name for the
two programs MIDI Edit and WinJammer. WinJammer becomes the product name.
Registration is now only available for the complete package.
Just in case you are still wondering about all this, the old MIDI Edit program
is now known as WinJammer (WINJAMMR.EXE), and the old WinJammer program is now
known as WinJammer Player (WJMRPLAY.EXE).
What is New in Version 2.00
In this file I will describe the bugs that were found in the previous versions.
I will also describe the enhancements that went into Version 2.00. Thanks go
out to all of you who sent me suggestions, as well as those who sent me bugs.
Keep up the good work.
Bug fixes to MIDI Edit version 1.10 --------------------------------------------
1. MIDI Edit improperly matches note off events with the wrong note on events.
This will apply to all songs that are saved by MIDI Edit, even if no
editing has been done.
2. There were some strange display problems in the Piano Roll screen, which
should have been all fixed. These tended to occur when the window was not
an exact number of beats wide.
3. This one is probably more a bug than an enhancement. There was a
discrepancy between how the note length was displayed and how it was
entered with the Duration command. This has been cleared up by changing
the display of the length to match the Duration command.
4. Adjusted the display routine for the main window so that long track or
instrument names will not overwrite the next columns.
5. Pitch wheel events are now shown centered at zero rather than at 8192.
This one is so obvious I'm not sure why I ever did it the other way.
6. WinJammer remembers the last directory you were using when you exited the
program. This was rather inconvenient when this was a diskette. The
directory will no longer be saved if it was a diskette.
Bug fixes to MIDILIB.DLL version 1.10 ------------------------------------------
1. Configuration errors now give more information. The error message
displayed now includes the I/O port, interrupt number and a reason code.
Please send me this information if you are having configuration problems.
2. The old WinJammer had a tendency to cause UAEs (Unrecoverable Application
Error) when switching songs. This was actually a problem with MIDILIB.DLL.
This has been fixed.
Enhancements in Version 2.00 ---------------------------------------------------
1. System Exclusive: The old Send Hex and Capture Hex commands have been
replaced with a more complete System Exclusive command on the MIDI menu.
This supports MIDIEX format files. WinJammer is now able to send bulk dump
request messages to request a dump from your MIDI box. These request
messages can be customized through the Sys Ex Customize command.
2. Mute: It is now possible to mute a track, simply by pressing M. You don't
have to use the Track Information command anymore (although you still can).
And yes, you can do this while the song is playing. Thanks go to all the
people to asked for this change, you managed to convince me it was a good
idea.
3. Toolbar: You've probably already noticed this change, but I'll tell you
about it anyway. All of the important controls have been moved from the
Play Controls window onto the Toolbar. This includes the buttons to play,
record etc., as well as the tempo bar and current song position. The old
play controls still exists, although it only contains the metronome and
patches. Each of these buttons also have short cut keys, so a mouse is not
required. Check out the help for the details.
4. Lock Patches: In an effort to make it easier to assign patches to a song,
the Play Controls window contains a new switch called Lock Patches. When
this is checked, the current patch numbers in the Play Controls are not
cleared, and all patches in the tracks are filtered during play.
5. Auto Reset: This is a new switch on the MIDI menu. When this is on, a
reset sequence will be sent whenever play/record is stopped.
6. Triplet/Dotted: There are two new switches on the Edit menu of the Track
List and Piano Roll windows. These change the lengths of the quick
duration commands.
7. Sixty-fourth Notes: Added a new quick duration command: 64th note.
8. Find: Added new find commands to the Edit menu on the Track List and Piano
Roll windows. These commands are used to search for the next (or previous)
event of a given type. Very handy.
