  1. McAFEE ASSOCIATES AND LEDBETTER UTILITIES ANNOUNCE SHAREWARE PARTNERSHIP

  4. Santa Clara, CA - August 20, 1992 - McAfee Associates, a leading developer of
  5. anti-virus utilities, today announced the integration of Keith Ledbetter's
  6. Utilities into its product line.
  7.  
  8. The Ledbetter Utilities include a suite of three extremely popular shareware
  9. utility  programs known as Supersonic Search Tool (WHEREIS, a file finder and
  10. Manipulator), LCD (a directory change utility), and LACE (a configuration
  11. control utility).  McAfee Associates will enhance the functionality and provide
  12. all customer support, sales, and marketing for the products.  Keith Ledbetter
  13. will continue to provide additional enhancements and product development
  14. support for the utilities.

  16. The first of McAfee Associates' new utilities, TARGET  (an enhanced version of
  17. Supersonic Search Tool), was released last week.  TARGET is a powerful, multi-
  18. purpose file finder and manipulation utility.  It can target selected files
  19. across all drives, including network drives, and can initiate actions on those
  20. files such as virus scanning, copying, renaming, re-grouping, deleting,
  21. archiving, and many other functions.  It will search based on date ranges, file
  22. sizes, attributes, file extensions or duplicate files, and can use a variety
  23. of search masks - including regular expressions.  For example, TARGET can be
  24. used to locate all .DOC files buried in sub-directories of local drives and file
  25. servers and incorporate them into a ZIP-archive file, and then delete all of the
  26. unarchived .DOC files.

  28. The remaining Ledbetter utilities LCD and LACE are currently being modified to 
  29. provide additional features and functionality to users.  These products will be
  30. released in the fourth quarter of 1992.

  33. Keith's outstanding utilities to our product line," and added "We are committed
  34. to expanding our product offerings to include a broad range of solutions for
  35. our home, business, and government users.  These solutions will include a
  36. family of PC utilities that will enrich users' productivity and data security."

  39. flexibility of buying only the utilities they need.  Our approach is to give
  40. users the choice of buying utilities separately or as a bundled package.
  41. Afterall, when you need a hammer, Sears doesn't force you to buy the whole
  42. tool kit."

  59. TARGET is currently available from McAfee Associates or any of its authorized
  60. agents  world-wide.  The product is licensed to homeusers for $20 which
  61. includes all updates for one year.  Business, government, and other
  62. institutional users may license the product under a two-year site license
  63. agreement which includes free product updates during the term of the license.
  64. McAfee Associates intends to update the programs at least twice a year with
  65. additional features and functions.  TARGET plus other McAfee Associates'
  66. utilities can be downloaded for evaluation at no charge from McAfee
  67. Associates' BBS at (408) 988-4004 or from CompuServe (GO MCAFEE).
