The following changes were made in WinZip 3.1. Please see the online
help for more information.
Features marked with an asterisk are available only under Windows 3.1 or
if the Common Dialog Boxes are installed on a Windows 3.0 system. Other
features are available under both Windows 3.0 and 3.1.
* Added support for Windows 3.1 Drag and Drop Interface
- Added support for Norton Desktop for Windows 2.0 Drag and Drop
Interface
* Enhanced Extract dialog box with common dialog directory and drive
list
* Added check box to automatically open the Add dialog when creating a
new archive
- Added Test action for ZIP and LZH files
- Changed pull-down menu choices for Windows 3.1 compatibility
- Cosmetic changes (e.g. capitalization)
- Changed Sort by extension to Sort by Type
* Added Help/Search menu entry
- Deleted Help/Help for keys
- Replaced Options/Defaults dialog with Save Settings on Exit menu entry
for compatibility with the Windows 3.1 File Manager and Program
Manager
- Added ability to specify drive for the optional log file in
Option/Configuration dialog box
- Added "Save path information" check box to Add dialog box
- Switched to an 8 point font in dialog boxes for consistency with
Windows 3.1 applets
* Added file types ZIP, LZH, and ARC to New and Open dialog boxes
- The default directory for Extract operations is now "sticky". In
earlier versions of WinZip the default was always the directory
containing the archive. If you prefer the old behavior, select the
"current directory" radio button in the "Extract To" group in the
Configuration dialog box.
- Dates are displayed in mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy format depending on the
system date format
Changes and enhancements in WinZip 3.0 include:
- Full support for LZH files, including self-extracting LZH files
- Configurable support for most virus scanners
- Support for Norton Desktop for Windows
- Simplified options to add and extract files in a subdirectory tree
- Optional optional support for the Microsoft Common Dialog Boxes
- Improvements to many dialog boxes
Changes and enhancements in WinZip 2.0 include:
- Double clicking on a file now has the same effect as double clicking
in the File Manager. If the file is executable, it is run.
Otherwise, the file is opened by the appropriate application for
viewing.
- Added facility to extract all files in a ZIP to a temporary directory
and create a Program Manager group for all files in the ZIP. This
group contains one icon for each file. When WinZip is closed, it
optionally deletes the Group.
- Added support for ARC files.
- Added support for self-extracting ZIP files (ZIP2EXE).
- Added optional interface to Virus Scan software.
- Added Program Locations dialog box to let you specify paths and
filenames of external programs.
- Added option to delete an entire ZIP in the Delete dialog box.
- Added separate sorted list boxes for filenames and directories in the
Open dialog box.
- Added list box containing directories in the New dialog box.
- Added a "default current directory" configuration option (see the
first item in the Hints and Tips section in the online documentation
for a description of why this can be useful).
- Added keyboard mnemonics for controls in all dialog boxes.
- Moved push buttons to a button bar on top of the main window, and
added the New, Open, and CheckOut buttons
- Temporary files are cleaned up sooner.
