  18. There are currently two new ROM sets.  One is currently revved as 1.2H 
  19. and is being made available free to all registered users.  This is 
  20. OPTION #1 and will be mailed out within 10 days of receipt of the order
  21. via US Mail.  Shipment by US Mail is the only available method for OPTION #1 
  22. and includes the following features:
  23.  
  24.         Enhances Busy Detection
  25.         Fixes several Lock Display/Modem problems
  26.         Improved Speed Re negotiation (Fall Back) upon bad line conditions
  27.         Implements Fall Forward upon better line conditions
  28.         Fixes Adaptive Answering (allows data/fax determination)
  29.         Implements ECM  (Error Correction Mode)
  30.                 Note:  Must be supported by fax software
  31.         Implements BFT mode (Binary File Transfer)
  32.                 Note:  Must be supported by fax/terminal software
  33.         Fixes problem with DCD line turning off if modem configured with &C 
  34.         &Dx and &Cx settings are respected when in fax mode

  41. The second ROM set is revved 1.2J and includes all of the above enhancements 
  42. plus the Caller ID feature.  This ROM is available as OPTION #2 and will 
  43. cost $19.95 plus $5.00 shipping.  We will accept Visa/MC or can ship it COD 
  44. for an addition $5.00.  OPTION #2 will be shipped via UPS BLUE label which 
  45. is second day air.  This is the only shipment method available for 
  46. OPTION #2.

  48. Supra will be sending an upgrade offer to all registered owners.  This offer
  49. will be for either OPTION #1(Free ROM) which has all of the above features,
  50. or the OPTION #2(Caller ID) for $19.95.  The following are the only other
  51. available methods for ordering the ROMs.
  52.  
  53. 1. BBS
  54.  
  55. We are currently working on the software that will allow you to order either
  56. ROM from Supra via its BBS.  This software will also allow you to enter your
  57. warranty card and change your warranty card on-line.  Once this is working,
  58. it will be activated and you can immediately enter your order.  The quickest 
  59. way to order the ROM will be via the BBS.  Until then, please do not contact
  60. Supra to order either ROM.  This file will be updated when this method comes
  61. on-line.  We expect it to be available by Sept. 19.

  63. 2. CompuServe
  64.  
  65. This file contains an order form at the end which will need to be downloaded, 
  66. filled out, and Emailed to Supra's CompuServe account(76004,565).  If the 
  67. form is not used or filled out incorrectly it will be mailed back to the 
  68. user.  
  69.  
  70. When uploading the form, PLEASE make sure it is in STANDARD TEXT FORMAT.  
  71. If the form is in any other format, any information is missing or fill out 
  72. incorrectly it will only delay shipment of your new ROMs.  
  73.  
  74. CompuServe also has a service available where you can send a file as Email,
  75. many CIS access programs have a option to perform this for you.  This 
  76. method will also be acceptible for sending your order form.

  78. 3. OTHER
  79.  
  80. We are currently working on the upgrade options for customers outside of the 
  81. USA.  At this time if you are located outside of the USA it will cost an 
  82. extra $15.00 shipping to send you the ROMs for both Option #1 and #2.  There
  83. will also be no COD available for foreign customers.  In about a month we 
  84. should be able to have Supra Germany send them to you for about the same 
  85. prices as the USA customers if you are located in Europe.  As we finalize 
  86. things we will release that information.

  104. MORE IN-DEPTH INFORMATION ON 1.2J/H ENHANCEMENTS
  105.  
  106. Enhances Busy Detection
  107.         Some people had several different problems with busy detection.  All 
  108.         calls would return BUSY or only certain calls would return busy.  All 
  109.         known problems have been fixed. This problem only happened to a small 
  110.         percentage of users. 
  111.  
  112. Fixes several Lock Display/Modem problems
  113.         The Supra v32bis modem is running several different processors and 
  114.         tasks at one time. If the right timing sequence or events happen, 
  115.         the modem could lockup.  The only way to fix the problem was to 
  116.         power cycle the modem.  This problem only happened to a small 
  117.         percentage of users. 
  118.  
  119. Improved Speed Re negotiation (Fall Back) upon bad line conditions
  120.         The 1.2C ROM was our first ROM to implement this feature.  We have 
  121.         continued to improve our code to better handle bad line conditions, 
  122.         especially at connect time.   
  123.  
  124. Implements Fall Forward upon better line conditions
  125.         Once the phone line conditions improve, the modem can initiate a step 
  126.         up in baud.
  127.  
  128. Fixes Adaptive Answering (allows data/fax determination)
  129.         A mode which allows the modem to connect with either a fax or a data 
  130.         modem.  Once it makes the connection, it will return a result code 
  131.         indicating which one it connected with.  It is then the software's 
  132.         responsibility to route the call to the proper program.  Some "front 
  133.         door" software for BBSs and terminal programs have this ability.  
  134.         "Front door" software has control of the serial port and waits for an
  135.         incoming call.  When it receives a call, it may present a prompt to 
  136.         the user asking which program they want to run, or based upon the
  137.         modems result code decide which program is to be run.  (Thus, it 
  138.         functions as a call router.) The "front door" software then wakes up 
  139.         or runs the correct program, which then takes over control of the 
  140.         serial port and thus the modem.  When the call is ended, the program 
  141.         quits or shuts down and lets the "front door" regain control of the 
  142.         serial port/modem.
  143.

  151.         NOTE:  This sequence must be sent before every answer

  153. Implements ECM  (Error Correction Mode)
  154.         Allows the fax software to resend a block of information if it is 
  155.     not received correctly by the other modem.  This feature MUST be 
  156.     supported by the fax software in order to be used.
  157.  
  158. Implements BFT mode (Binary File Transfer)
  159.         Allows the user to send a file to another fax modem as if it were a 
  160.         fax instead of a file.  This feature MUST be supported by the fax 
  161.         software in order to be used. This allows the user to use the fax 
  162.         software to send the file instead of using a terminal program.  
  163.  
  164. Fixes problem with DCD line turning off if modem configured with &C 
  165.         If the modem was configured with the &C, especially during a 
  166.         disconnect, the modem would toggle DCD line.  This problem only 
  167.         affected a small percentage of users, generally those running BBSs 
  168.         on the Apple II. 
  169.  
  170. &Dx and &Cx settings are respected when in fax mode
  171.         The CCITT TR29.2 committee has not defined how the modem should 
  172.         react to the &D and &C settings when in class 2 fax mode.  While the 
  173.         committee has not defined this, there is a strong sentiment for 
  174.         respecting the &D and &C settings as it is handled in class 1 and 
  175.         when the modem is in data mode.  This also allows the modems to work 
  176.         better under fax mode in the UNIX environment.

  178. Fixes problem connecting with some fax machines
  179.         The 1.2C ROMs had a few problems making connections to some fax 
  180.         machines.  The fax machine used a slightly different tone when 
  181.         answering.  This resulted in the two machines toning back and forth, 
  182.         not making a connection and then eventually hang up. This problem 
  183.         only happened to a small percentage of users.

  186. Added S-Register S109
  187.         Controls speeds available for V.32bis carrier handshake, or the 
  188.         carrier rate to negotiate error correction, if S-Register S110=3.

  200. Added S-Register S110=3
  201.  
  202.         V.32bis standard negotiates carrier speed at 4800 baud then jumps to 
  203.         the agreed carrier speed to negotiate error correction/data 
  204.          compression.  On noisy lines this can cause various connection 
  205.         problems.  Supra's solution is to set S-Register S110 to 3.  This 
  206.         causes the modems to connect at the slowest possible V.32 or V.32bis 
  207.         speed.  Once this is done, as long as the line is clean enough, the 
  208.         modems will up-shift to the next possible carrier rate.
  209.         
  210.         The slowest possible carrier speed can be limited by the use of 
  211.         S-register S109.
  212.  
  213. NOTE:   Some modems can only up-shift a few times and then they will lose the
  214.         connection  (especially Supra V.32 and V.32bis with ROMs < 1.2C).  
  215.         The solution is to change S-Register S109 so that it does not need 
  216.         to up-shift as many times.
  217.  
  218. NOTE:  This only works when the modem is originating the call.
  219.  
  220. Implements Silent Answer (allows voice/fax determination) 
  221.  
  222.         When the phone rings, the modem will start monitoring the telephone 
  223.         line after the 2nd ring.  If it detects a fax tone, it will do one 
  224.         of two things:  
  225.  
  226.         1.      If S-Register S0 != 0, the modem will immediately answer the 
  227.                 phone and attempt a fax connection.
  228.  
  229.         2.      If S-Register S0 = 0, the modem will quickly issue up to 9 
  230.                 RINGS messages, expecting the fax software to issue an ATA.
  231.  
  232.         This eliminates the need for a $150 voice/fax black box.
  233.  
  234. NOTE:   DO NOT plug the answering machine into the telephone jack on the back 
  235.         of the modem.  The modem should be plugged into the answering machine. 
  236.         This also works if a telephone is in the circuit before the 
  237.         fax modem.
  238.  
  239. NOTE:   This mode must be supported by the fax software.
  240.  
  241. Implements Caller ID   (OPTION #2 only)
  242.  
  243.         This is a feature that is only available in some areas of the country.  
  244.         In between the 1st and the 2nd ring, the phone company will send 
  245.         information on who is calling you.  If you are in terminal mode and 
  246.         had told the modem to answer on the 2rd ring, you would see:

  270. In addition to the enhancements and corrections noted above, Supra's new 
  271. 1.2J/H ROM release also includes modifications that were implemented in the 
  272. previous 1.2C ROM release.  They are as follows:

  274. %G0     disables Rate Re negotiation on V.32bis
  275.  
  276. %G1     enables Rate Re negotiation on V.32bis 
  277.         enables Rate Re negotiation and Retrain on V.32
  278.  
  279. %E      has not changed, but if both %G1 and %E1 are set, then the modem will
  280.         Rate Re negotiate during a Retrain.  This is also the only way the V.32 
  281.         modem can Rate Re negotiate.
  282.  
  283. AT&F1 and AT&F2 defaults now include %G1
  284.  
  285. S-Register S110:
  286.  
  287.         0       causes connect at V.32 only
  288.         1       enable V.32bis on V.32bis modems
  289.         2       enable V.32bis and automatic rate re negotiation.
