TITLE : FORM ATTRIBUTES IN PARADOX 2.0 VS. PARADOX 3.0
In Paradox 2.0, all forms, whether created on a color or
monochrome monitor, were saved with only Monochrome attributes.
That means they have four basic attribute types: Normal,
Intense, Reverse, and Intense-Reverse (which looks identical to
Reverse on a mono monitor). Another attribute is Blink/NoBlink,
which is toggled on or off for the four basic attributes, so
there actually are eight basic mono attributes. The Blink
attribute is always the same, regardless of monitor type or
Paradox version. On a color monitor, the four mono attributes
are directly translated at run time to specific default color
combinations: white on dark blue for Normal, red on dark blue
for Intense, black on light grey for Reverse, and dark grey on
light grey for Intense-Reverse. These default combinations can
only be changed through modifying the .CFG file (in Custom, or
using the Colors script).
In Paradox 3.0, forms created or saved are given two sets of
attributes, Color and Mono, which are set using the Style/Color
and Style/Mono selections in Forms/Design or Change. Mono
settings still have the four basic attributes, but color settings
have 128 attributes: sixteen foreground colors multiplied by
eight background colors (actually, there are 256 color
attributes, if you include the Blink/NoBlink bit).
When you design a form in 3.0 on a color monitor, the color
settings are saved as you see them (e.g. red on cyan gets the red
on cyan attribute -- color attribute 52.) The mono settings are
saved according to which color attributes are mapped to which
mono attributes. The .CFG file determines which colors are
mapped to which of the four monochrome styles, but the basic
default settings (those which you see when you design a form with
Style/Mono settings in 3.0 on a color monitor) are: black on
grey for Normal, light blue on dark blue for Intense, black on
cyan for Reverse, and white on cyan for Intense-Reverse.
When you design a form in 3.0 on a mono monitor, the mono
settings are saved according to how you defined them under
Style/Mono (everything else is given the Normal attribute). The
color settings by default are light grey on black for Normal, but
they are not dependent on the Paradox configuration (.CFG file).

TITLE : FORM ATTRIBUTES IN PARADOX 2.0 VS. PARADOX 3.0
For an existing form, there are two areas where the attributes
need to be translated: in form view and in the form spec
(Forms/Change). In the latter case, saving the form (Do_it!) may
alter the original attributes if the form was created on a
different monitor type or Paradox version.
When you view a color 3.0 form on a mono monitor in 3.0, the four
color attributes will be translated to their corresponding mono
attributes. All other color combinations will translate to
Normal. The exceptions are the eight "bland" color attributes,
(e.g. cyan on cyan, brown on brown, green on green, etc.). These
eight attributes translate to black on black (attribute 0) on a
mono monitor, so they will be invisible.
When you save a color form in Paradox 3.0 on a mono monitor, you
will wipe out all of the color attributes. All areas which were
translated as mono Normal (which is practically every color
attribute, except the three mapped to Reverse, Intense, and
Intense-Reverse) will now be grey on black. Therefore, if you
wish to create a form in 3.0 which will be used on both color and
mono monitors, you should design and save it only on a color
monitor.
Paradox 3.0 on a color monitor will view and save Paradox 2.0
mono forms by translating the mono attributes to their
corresponding color attributes. This is why a 2.0 form which
looks white on blue in 2.0 (the 2.0 default for mono Normal)
looks black on grey in color 3.0 (the 3.0 default for mono style
Normal).
