  18.   Though there is not currently a "Windows" Version of Paradox, it
  19.   should be able to run as a DOS program under Windows.

  21.   This technical information sheet is written for Paradox version
  22.   3.0; Paradox 3.5 actually comes with a windows .PIF file.  More
  23.   documentation on Paradox 3.5 under Windows is contained in the
  24.   Paradox 3.5 README file.

  26.   There are two basic tasks to be accomplished before using Paradox
  27.   3.0 under Windows.  First, some changes may need to be made to
  28.   the CONFIG.SYS file in the root directory of the hard disk.
  29.   Second, a Windows .PIF file (Program Information File) will need
  30.   to be created for Paradox 3.0.  The following paragraphs discuss
  31.   these changes and settings.  Consult the Windows User Guide and
  32.   the PIFEDIT.HLP file for information on PIF Editor (pgs. 447-448)

  34.   Set both the FILES and BUFFERS statements in the CONFIG.SYS files
  35.   to a value of at least 30, not the default of 20 required by
  36.   Paradox.  In addition, Windows may have installed two DEVICE=
  37.   statements in the CONFIG.SYS file.  They would be the following:

  39.           Device = C:\HIMEM.SYS (provides XMS support to extended
  40.                    memory programs)
  41.           Device = C:\SMARTDRV.SYS (adds a disk-caching program for
  42.                    computers that have a hard disk and extended or
  43.                    expanded memory)

  45.   If the computer does not have any extended memory (memory above
  46.   640K), these statements should not have been placed in the
  47.   CONFIG.SYS file; if they were, remove them.  For more information
  48.   on modifying the CONFIG.SYS file, please consult the MS-DOS or
  49.   PC-DOS documentation.

  296.   settings mean, please consult the Windows documentation and
  297.   PIFEDIT.HLP.

  299.   Since Paradox has its own internal disk cache, using SMARTDRV.SYS
  300.   is not necessary.  Therefore it would be acceptable to remove the
  301.   "Device = c:\SMARTDRV.SYS" line.  If a disk cache program like
  302.   SMARTDRV.SYS is loaded, then the cache percent in the Paradox
  303.   Custom Configuration Program will need to be set to 0 (see pgs.
  304.   261-262 in the Paradox 3.0 User's Guide).

  306.   After modifying the CONFIG.SYS file and creating a .PIF file for
  307.   Paradox, you should now be able to run a single copy within
  308.   Windows.  These settings should work on most computers that have
  309.   Windows 3.0 installed.  However, with the variety of hardware and
  310.   Windows device drivers available, these settings may not work
  311.   with every installation.  If there are problems switching from
  312.   Paradox to Windows and back, change two of the display options:
