PRODUCT : Paradox NUMBER : 158
VERSION : 2.0 & up
OS : DOS
DATE : December 31, 1991 PAGE : 1/3
TITLE : Installing Paradox on Netware Lite
Install Netware Lite as instructed by the Netware Lite
documentation.
PART I: Preparing the server.
Create the following subdirectories on the SERVER's local drive:
C:\PDOX35............This will contain the Paradox program files.
C:\PDOXDATA..........This will contain the Paradox data files
(including the PARADOX.NET file).
As SUPERVISOR, use the NET utility to create the following
network directories, PDOX35 and PDOXDATA. The steps are:
o Type NET to start the Netware Lite NET utility.
o Select "Supervise the Network" from the Main Menu.
o Select "Network directories" from the "Supervise the
Network" menu.
o Press "Ins" to add a new network directory.
Add the following directories:
PDOX35
------
Actual directory path: (Type in the path for the Paradox PROGRAM
directory) i.e.: C:\PDOX35
Default access rights: READ
PDOXDATA
--------
Actual directory path: (Type in the path for the Paradox DATA
directory) i.e.: C:\PDOXDATA
Default access rights: ALL
Create the following mapped drives:

(NOTE: For purposes of this example, we will use drive letters H:
and I:. If you have already used these drive letters, please
substitute any other available drive letters).
Drive Network Directory Server Your Rights
----- ----------------- ------ -----------
H: PDOX35 NEBO ALL
I: PDOXDATA NEBO ALL
If you prefer, you can create these mapped drives at the DOS
prompt:
NET MAP H: PDOX35
NET MAP I: PDOXDATA
PART II: Installing Paradox
Install Paradox on the server's local drive. During the
installation, you will be asked if you will be accessing data on
a network. Respond with a "Y". An additional screen will
display, prompting you for the network type and location of the
Paradox network control file.
Network type: 6 (Other)
Network control file: I:\ (or whatever drive is designated for
PDOXDATA)
Proceed with the rest of the installation.
NOTE: If Paradox has already been installed on the server's local
drive as a non-networked version, you can change this by
running NUPDATE.EXE from the \PDOX35 directory. This will
allow you to change the Paradox network information.
After installation, change the read attribute for the Paradox
executable files to read only. In the \PDOX35 directory type
attrib +R *.EXE
PART III: Preparing the client.
Create a "home" or private directory for the user on their local
drive:
PRODUCT : Paradox NUMBER : 158
VERSION : 2.0 & up
OS : DOS
DATE : December 31, 1991 PAGE : 3/3
TITLE : Installing Paradox on Netware Lite
C:\> MD PDOXPRIV
After the client software has been loaded and the client is
logged to the network, use the NET MAP command to include the
PDOX35 and PDOXDATA drive letters.
NET MAP H: PDOX35 (or whatever drive is designated for
PDOX35)
NET MAP I: PDOXDATA (or whatever drive is designated for
PDOXDATA)
Add the H: drive to the client's PATH statement. This can be
done in a batch file with the following line:
PATH H:\;%PATH%
To start Paradox, change to the \PDOXPRIV directory, and type
PARADOX -SHARE
Run the Paradox Custom Configuration Program (see Chapter 14 of
the Paradox Users Guide if you are unsure about how to run CCP).
In Custom, select Net | SetPrivate from the main menu.
Change the private directory to C:\PDOXPRIV.
Press <F2> to save the configuration. Choose "Network" when it
prompts you where to save the PARADOX.CFG file.
At this point, all users should be able to run Paradox when
starting from their C:\PDOXPRIV directory. For additional
information, see Technical Information Sheet 618 for a general
overview of how to use Paradox on a network.
