  4. Welcome to my BBS List! For almost the past decade, I've tried to make
  5. it the most comprehensive and detailed reference to central Florida
  6. bulletin board services, and seemed to have succeeded. From local
  7. magazines and talk radio shows, to national publications, OCBL is
  8. considered to have one of the best compilation styles and procedures
  9. in place.
  10.  
  11. As I receive information, I will place it 'on hold' until I can confirm
  12. that a carrier is present at the stated number. If I can't connect in a
  13. week or so, I will discard the information as invalid. Note that due to
  14. the popularity of some systems not on my List, this may cause problems
  15. with initially getting on it.
  16.  
  17. I cannot list systems that are fundamentally pay services, such as GEnie
  18. or Prodigy. It's up to their advertising agencies to make themselves
  19. known. Nor can I list boards in town which are closed to new users, or
  20. require a password before login can occur. These systems are considered
  21. private and as such are not of use to the majority of callers.

  23. Sunday is the big day. My system shuts London down for a half hour and
  24. calls every system on my Listing. Those that do not link up two weeks
  25. running are placed into a holding pattern for me to contact in person.
  26. If a system is down three weeks running, it is removed from my database
  27. and placed in the Historical Listing as a board that has gone down.
  28.  
  29. Monday is another day of note for the List; it is sent automatically to
  30. about three dozen FidoNet systems in town. This ensures that copies are
  31. readily available from many sources for those sysops who desire having a
  32. List on their system, as well as making it easy for users to access. I
  33. strongly encourage the use of these Listings as bulletins, easily
  34. updated by automatic software or batch file commands.

  36. I strongly urge that no copy of the Listing over a month old be allowed
  37. to stay online. Systems go up and down so fast that a copy a few weeks
  38. old is starting to show holes. It is always available from my BBS, 24
  39. hours a day. If an old Listing is found somewhere, please remove it or
  40. ask that it be removed -- and pick up a new copy from my system.

  42. I can confirm that a system is still emitting carrier tones, but I
  43. cannot be responsible for the fine details of almost two hundred systems
  44. locally. Sysops are welcomed to fill out my survey, those on other
  45. systems that are echoed to me, or call my voice mailbox (details in the
  46. README file) with changes or additions.

  48. I ask that those who do reproduce my Listing do so without changing or
  49. rearranging the information therein. The accuracy of the Listing's
  50. contents is relatively sure from my BBS and those who get it directly
  51. from me; beware of third- or fourth-generation copies, however...
  52.  
  53. And finally, donations and fan mail are always welcomed and cherished.
