1992 Developer's Competition
What is the Developer's Competition?
We have all heard claims about which development tools are the best
and the quickest. The 1992 Developer's Competition is an event
which will put these claims to the test. The competition will take
place October 9th and 10th, 1992 in Durham, North Carolina and will
pit 120 software developers against one another as they attempt to
build a database application in 6 hours.
Each competitor will consist of a team of one or two persons using
a variety of database application software, languages, and third
party products. Only one CPU, keyboard, and printer is allowed.
This is a no holds barred competition. Developers can use any
tools, language, or program generators. Only completed
applications used as templates are prohibited. First, second, and
third place contestants will receive cash prizes ($5000, $3000,
$2000) respectively. Each competitor will receive at least $300
in software of their choice.
Why Should I Compete?
- The entry fee is only $200 per team member. This includes
meals, a chance to win the prize money, product and the
"Proceedings". More than this though, it is an exhilarating
experience.
- Your company will receive national recognition if it places
within the top ten competitors.
- All competitors will receive at least $300 worth of software
development products of their choice. See the list of prizes
awarded at the 1991 Developer's Competition.
- All competitors will gain invaluable experience as they see
first hand how other software developers work, the software
development environment they work in and why.
How to Register
There is no deadline, but only the first 100 teams will be
accepted. We must receive a completed registration with a deposit
of $100 per member to be accepted. Spectators can attend the event
for $20 at the door. Spectators who would like to attend the
social events, the Friday night reception and the awards dinner
must make a reservation and prepay $75.
How else can I get involved?
If this event sounds interesting to you, but you can't compete, you
might consider participating in one of the following ways: We need
Judges: If you have experience as either a software developer or
a manager of an MIS department, or have lots of experience using
computer software, you may qualify as a judge. We need Hardware:
If you are a local computer company that can lend computers,
monitors, printers, etc... Let us know. We are in need of a
"KodaShow" or similar product for projecting computer displays
using an overhead projector. We need Volunteers: If you would
like to help out the day of the competition let us know and we will
put you to work.
