  9. Enclosed are Orchid's latest ProDesigner IIs series IBM OS/2 2.0 Display
  10. drivers.

  13. I.                     PREPARATION
  14.

  16. STEP #1: Create a DOS boot up disk. Include an editor of some type on the disk.
  17.  
  18. STEP #2: Make sure you have the latest release of VSVGA.SYS.  You can download 
  19.          this file from Compuserve in LIB 17 of the CIS I Forum. 
  20.  
  21. STEP #3: Verify your system's functionality.  You can do this by testing the
  22.          standard IBM VGA display driver on your applications before installing
  23.          Orchid's display driver.

  26. II.                              INSTALLATION
  27.

  29. Drivers that can handle 70Hz are not available now.  When they become 
  30. available, they will be placed on Compuserve and in our BBS(510-683-0323).
  31.  
  32. STEP #1: Select one of the following resolution/refresh rates combination 
  33.          on your ProDesigner IIs:
  34.  
  35.             800x600,  set your vertical refresh rate to 56Hz or 60Hz.
  36.               SWITCH 1 OFF & SWITCH 2 OFF = 60Hz  (UP, UP)  or
  37.               SWITCH 1 ON  & SWITCH 2 OFF = 56Hz (DOWN, UP)

  39.             1024x768, set your vertical refresh rate to 45Hz or 60Hz.
  40.               SWITCH 1 OFF & SWITCH 2 OFF = 60Hz  (UP, UP)  or
  41.               SWITCH 1 ON  & SWITCH 2 OFF = 45Hz (DOWN, UP)
  42.                                                   
  43. STEP #2: Boot the system.
  44.  
  45.          If you don't have a picture or your picture is out of sync, reboot 
  46.          the system using a DOS disk.  Change to the \OS2 subdirectory and 
  47.          run SVGA.EXE using the commandline parameter ON. 
  48.  
  49.          Example:
  50.            >svga on
  51.  
  52.          This results is the creation, in the current subdirectory (\os2), 
  53.          of a video parameter file called SVGADATA.PMI.  Please be sure this 
  54.          file exists before continuing. 
  55.

  57. STEP #3: Create a subdirectory called ORCHID and copy one of our drivers into
  58.          the ORCHID subdirectory and rename it to DISPLAY.DLL.
  59.  
  60.          Example for the 800x16 driver:
  61.            >md orchid
  62.            >cd orchid
  63.            >copy /b a:800x16.dll display.dll
  64.  
  65. STEP #4: Use a text editor and modify the LIBPATH statement in the OS/2 2.0 
  66.          CONFIG.SYS to place the ORCHID subdirectory in the LIBPATH. It should 
  67.          be placed before any other LIBPATH entries.

  69.          Example:

  71.            LIBPATH=.;C:\123G;C:\OS2\DLL;C:\OS2\MDOS;C:\;C:\OS2\APPS\DLL;
  72.  
  73.          should be changed to
  74.  
  75.            LIBPATH=c:\orchid;.;C:\123G;C:\OS2\DLL;C:\OS2\MDOS;C:\;C:\OS2\APPS\DLL;

  78. STEP #5: Reboot the system.

  81. III.                         CHANGING RESOLUTIONS

  84. 1) Reboot your system with a DOS disk.
  85.  
  86. 2) Copy one of our drivers into our ORCHID subdirectory and rename it
  87.    to DISPLAY.DLL.
  88.  
  89.    EXAMPLE:
  90.      >Copy /b a:1024x256.dll display.dll
  91.  
  92. 3) Reboot in OS/2.
  93.

  95. IV.                           TROUBLESHOOTING
  96.  
  97.  
  98. Point #1: 
  99. In some cases, after boot up, some or all ICONs on the desktop or in a
  100. window are not visible. You can use one of the following suggestions:
  101.  
  102. 1) Use the scroll bars at the right and bottom edges of the window to bring 
  103.    the ICONs into view. 
  104.  
  105. 2) Or, in a window, press the right mouse button and select ARRANGE with the 
  106.    left mouse button. This action will set the ICONs into view. 
  107.  
  108. Point #2:
  109. When opening some applications under OS/2, the screen may not be completely 
  110. visible. Use the following suggestion:
  111.  
  112. 1) Press CONTROL-ESCAPE and bring up the TASK LIST WINDOW. Using the left 
  113.    mouse button, highlight the application name, then use the right mouse 
  114.    button to bring up a menu. From this menu, select tile or cascade and the 
  115.    full screen of the application will then be visible.

  118. Point #3:
  119. If by chance you have tried everything and still can't get OS/2 to boot up
  120. properly with our drivers, do the following to get back to the default mode:
  121.  
  122. 1) Boot up with your DOS diskette.
  123.  
  124. 2) Go into the ORCHID subdirectory and delete DISPLAY.DLL.
  125.  
  126. 3) Reboot the system.
  127.  
  128. 6) Please send us a problem report of your system.

  131. V.                            PROBLEM REPORTS
  132.  
  133.  
  134. This effort is the first release of the driver. While every effort has been
  135. made to insure it is error free, no guarantee is made that this is the
  136. case. As problems are found and fixed, the new drivers will be uploaded here
  137. as soon as possible. 
  138.  
  139. If you wish to report a problem you may do so by generating a text file with
  140. the following pertinent information:
  141.  
  142.         System description
  143.         (CPU, BIOS version, systemboard memory, other installed hardware)
  144.  
  145.         ProDesigner II adapter description
  146.         (include BIOS version, hardware revision level, switch [ISA], 
  147.         configuration register [EISA], or POS settings [Micro Channel],
  148.         resolution of driver being used, date & time stamp of driver)
  149.  
  150.         OS/2 configuration
  151.         (copy of CONFIG.SYS file)
  152.  
  153.         System or application software in use when problem symptoms appeared
  154.         (name, version, configuration)
  155.         
  156.         Problem description 
  157.         (symptoms)
  158.  
  159.         Steps necessary to reproduce problem symptoms
  160.  
  161.         Daytime phone number with a best time to call in case further
  162.         information is needed
  163.  
  164. Please place the above information into a text file - it can be zipped. Send 
  165. file to [Orchid] 76467,1424 using CIS EMAIL. 
  166.  
  167. Orchid's technical support staff is not prepared, at this time, to handle 
  168. OS/2 2.0 drivers calls.    Our BBS (510-683-0323) is open 24 hours a day and
