FAMILY HISTORY SYSTEM
Installation Procedure
The distribution diskettes for the Family History System contain many files
that are not used during the normal operation of the system. The purpose of
this procedure is to prepare a "working copy" of those files that are
required for you to create, maintain and process files of information about
your own Family.
If you are planning to run the system from diskettes you will first have to
format one or two diskettes to hold this working copy of the programs. One
diskette should be labeled the STARTUP diskette. To prepare it, place your
DOS diskette, which has the FORMAT command, in the "A" drive of your PC, the
STARTUP diskette in the "B" drive and enter the following command:
A>FORMAT B:/S
If you are using 360k diskettes, you will need a second diskette which
should be labeled the REPORT diskette. After preparing the STARTUP diskette
place the REPORT diskette in the "B" drive and enter the command:
A>FORMAT B: (leave off the "/S" this time)
Note: any form of the FORMAT command will destroy all contents of the
diskette which is placed in the "B" drive, so make sure the one you use
does not have anything on it that you wish to save.
