PAI GOW POKER
Pai Gow Poker combines the elements of the ancient Chinese game
of Pai Gow and the American game of Poker. It is played with a
standard deck of 52 playing cards plus a joker. The joker can
be used only as an ace or to complete a straight, a flush or a
straight flush.
Each player is dealt seven cards face down, which the player
arranges to make two poker hands: a two-card hand and a five-
card hand. The player must always be sure that the five-card
hand beats the two-card hand. Any player's hand that is set
incorrectly is a foul hand and becomes an automatic loser. The
two-card hand is called the Low or Front hand and the five-card
hand is called the High or Back hand. The Low hand is not
played as Lowball poker. The player should not associate the
term Low hand with low poker. Both hands are played high. One
hand just happens to hold two cards.
The object of the game is to beat the banking hand. In most
cases the banking hand is the casino, but the player's may bank
the game also. In order for the player to win his or her bet,
the player's High and Low hand must beat the bankers High and
Low hand. IE: Players winning both High and Low hands are
winners. Players winning either High or Low hands are ties or
pushes. Players losing both High and Low hands are losers.
Neither the house bank or player bank may foul their hand. In
the event a banker fouls a hand, the hand is reset according to
the house hand rules. If a player fouls a hand, it's an
automatic loser.
The house collects a 5% commission on all winning hands. If a
player is banking, that player pays the 5% commission only if
player shows a profit.
STARTING PAI GOW POKER
From your DOS prompt, type PGP and press the ENTER key. In order
for Pai Gow Poker to run, you must be logged onto the directory
where PGP.EXE resides. Pai Gow Poker must be able to locate the
files PGP01.INF, PGP02.INF, and PGP03.INF.
The following are examples for starting Pai Gow Poker:
Typing from your Explanation
DOS prompt
PGP Use mouse
PGP K Use keyboard
You may either play Pai Gow Poker with a mouse or your
keyboard. When starting Pai Gow Poker by typing PGP, you
automatically default to mouse usage. If Pai Gow Poker has
- 2 -
trouble detecting your mouse or your mouse driver is not
installed, you will be dropped into the keyboard mode.
TANDY 1OOO
NOTE: If your computer is a Tandy 1OOO, the file "T1KVGA.COM"
may be required to be in memory before playing Pai Gow Poker.
If you cannot play this game, install the "T1KVGA.COM" file in
memory first. From your DOS prompt, type T1KVGA and press the
ENTER key. You may then play Pai Gow Poker as described above.
The first screen you see will be the boot screen. This will
display the copyright notice and version number of Pai Gow
Poker. A message will be displayed on the bottom of the screen
asking you to either press a mouse button or the ENTER key.
When you've done this, Pai Gow Poker will load in the required
graphic screens it requires to continue to operate. This may
take some time if you are playing this from a floppy disk.
The next screen you see will be the Pai Gow Poker table layout.
You will be playing Pai Gow Poker from this screen.
PAI GOW POKER TABLE
The playing screen will resemble a Pai Gow Poker table. The
house hand will be located at the top middle of your screen.
The six player's positions are located on the bottom half of the
screen. Each position will show the outcome from the last hand
played, the current amount of money you have won or lost during
the current session you're playing, and the total amount of
money won or lost since you've been playing Pai Gow Poker.
On the right side of the house hand (left on your screen) you
will notice a marker. This is the bank marker which is placed
on the bet of the player who wishes to act as the bank. If none
of the player's wish to bank the hand, the marker will remain at
the right of the dealer. This indicates that the house is
banking the hand.
On the right side of the bank marker (left on your screen), you
will notice a card tray. The card tray holds the cards that are
left over from the deck after the deal. The tray will also hold
the cards picked up by the house after the house collects or
pays off on a hand decision. Once all bets are made good, the
house will remove the cards from the card tray and proceed with
another hand of Pai Gow Poker.
On the left side of the house hand (right on your screen) will
be a dice cup. The dice cup contains three dice. The dice
determine how the hands are distributed to each of the player's.
PLAYING PAI GOW POKER
When starting to play Pai Gow Poker, each player will place a
- 3 -
bet in the betting circle in front of each player's position.
Each player will place a bet from $5 to $500. If a player
wishes to bank the game, the bank marker will be placed over the
amount the player has put up for the bank. In this game, a
player that banks the game will cover all bets. A player cannot
bank a round of Pai Gow twice in a row.
The house will shuffle the cards and deal seven packs of seven
cards each. The house usually deals from left to right, then
right to left, repeating this procedure until each of the seven
packs contain seven cards.
Once all the bets are made, the banker (house or player) will
shake the dice cup. The house will uncover the cup, exposing
the dice, and count the total of the dice. The total of the
dice determine which player will receive the first pack of seven
cards. The bank position will always be 1, 8 or 15. The house
will distribute the packs of cards clockwise. If the dice show
a total of 9, the house will count the bank as position 8. The
next player is 9 and that player gets the first pack. The next
player gets the second pack, etc.
Five of the players and the house are played by the computer.
The sixth player is your position in which you will have to
place your bet and arrange your High and Low hands.
Once all the player's seven cards have been arranged in their
High and Low hands, the player's will place the Low hand in
front of the High hand, both face down. The bank will then
arrange his hand and expose both the High and Low hands. The
house plays their hand according to the house rules. Each
casino may vary in the manner they select the High and Low
hands.
The house will then expose each of the player's hands, one at a
time, collecting or paying off the bets with the banker's money.
Only the house will collect commissions on a winning player
hand. In the event a player is banking the game, the house will
collect its commission from the player banker if a profit is
shown. If a player is banking the game, the house will make a
bet of $10.
USING A MOUSE
When using a mouse to play Pai Gow Poker, move the mouse cursor
over one of the options, and press either mouse button. While
in the mouse mode, you will not be able to use the keyboard.
USING THE KEYBOARD
To select one of the options, use the key associated with the
option, which will usually be located to the left of the option.

position, playing speed and toggle the card animation on or off
(See Setup Menu).
F5 - Reset (Registered Version Only)

will include the house hands and statistics. If you decide you
want to restore them back to the original values, you may do so
by following the instructions on the bottom line of your
screen. This can only be done while in the Reset mode. Once
accepting the values, you cannot restore them.
F10 - Quit
When selecting Quit, you will be returned to your DOS prompt.
Hand statistics are saved when returning to DOS.
PLACING A BET
Wagers are placed automatically for the computer player's. The

allowing the player to place a bet. The window will display the
following:
5 25 100 500 BANK

1 2 3 4 5
5 25 100 500 BANK
Your Bet 0
If you are using a mouse, place your mouse cursor over the
amount you wish to bet and press the left mouse button. If you
- 5 -
are using the keyboard, press one of the numbers (1-5) directly
above the bet you wish to make. If no other player is banking
the game, you may select bank. Selecting Bank means you will
cover all bets and pay the house a 5% commission on any profit
you have at the end of the hand. To accept the bet, press the
right mouse button, or the ENTER key if you are using the
keyboard.
You must place a bet of at least $5. If you accept a bet of 0,
your bet will default to $5. Your last bet will always be shown
in the window. If you were previously the bank or you exceed a
$500 bet, your bet will be shown as zero.
Examples
To place a bet of $110, select $5 twice and a $100 bet once. To
place a bet of $15 if your last bet was $110, select $500 which
will add $500 to your last $110 bet. This exceeds the maximum
bet and resets your bet to 0. Now select $5 three times.
SELECTING HIGH/LOW HAND
After all the card packs are distributed to the players, your
seven-card hand will be exposed and spread in the center of the
screen. The cards in your hand will be sorted from high to low
allowing you to easily select your High and Low hand. Select
2 cards for the Low hand.
If you are using a mouse, move the mouse cursor over one of the
cards you want to use in the Low hand and press the left mouse
button. Select the next card for the Low hand and again press
the left mouse button. Each time you select a card, a Low
Marker is placed over the card. To remove the Low Marker from a
card, select the card again.
If you are using the keyboard, select the Low cards by card
number. The cards are numbered 1 through 7, left to right.
When you are satisfied with your Low hand, press the right mouse
button, or the ENTER key if you are using the keyboard.
